GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Rangers (03.12.23) | Crosby Hits 50-Assists for 10th Season

On Sunday afternoon, the Penguins hosted the New York Rangers. Within the first five minutes of the game, the Rangers already received three penalties. During the 5-on-3, Ricard Rakell opened up the scoring off a pass from Sidney Crosby. From there, the pace of the game picked up. Plenty of hits were thrown by both teams with plenty of chances around the net. The Rangers answered the Penguin’s goal halfway through the 1st. But that did not deter the Penguins. They kept generating chance after chance on the New York goaltender, tallying 15 SOG on the 1st. Jason Zucker only a minute and a half into the second scored his 9th goal in 8 games. Zucker took a slapshot from the point that redirected off the Ranger’s defense in front, putting the Penguins up 2-1. After Zucker’s goal, the period would intensify. A great deal of hits and fast physical play finished out the 2nd. The 3rd had a different tone. It was a quieter start. The Rangers evened up the score at 2-2 halfway through. For the 19th time this season, the Penguins went into overtime. Receiving a power play chance, Kris Letang made it happen once again. On a one-timer from Evgeni Malkin, Letang ended the game giving the victory to the Penguins.

  1. Awesome win against a stacked Rangers team. Good of us to lock down early and nice one timer from Letang. It'll only get harder Thursday and Saturday, but lets take this win, take the good and throw what we have at the Rangers. Ready for our hosting of the Canadiens the 14th.

  2. THAT is Penguins hockey!! If the Pens approach the remainder of their games with the intensity, focus and heart they put into this game they could do some damage! Very impressive effort at both ends of the ice. Would've preferred they finished in 3 periods holding on to the one goal lead…but they finished still the same. Go Pens Go!!!

  3. Game should've never gone to OT, that elbow from behind on Malkin should've been whistled, it wasn't and seconds later the Rags scored. Even Jonesy said that was a missed call!!

  4. The Pens seem to be coming together pretty good at the right time.
I was down on Hextall, and I still kinda am but Rakell, Granlund, and a couple others look pretty good I think, huh?

They've got more depth and options now, but can they compete against certain teams??

  5. Zibanejad showing his lack of determination to win on that own goal. Gotta stand in front of the shot–good for the Pens long term if new york somehow makes the playoffs

  6. Trouba refusing to drop the gloves after that hit on nylander 💀 what exactly do you do as the captain of that hockey team

  7. How in the world was that cheap shot from behind on Geno not a penalty?? Game shoulda never went to OT…

  8. Refs gave them a cheap point. Rangers had no business being in this game and they weren’t except for the only odd man rush given up all game on an obvious missed penalty.

  9. Jarry has to focus on holding the puck, he must at critical times make every possible effort to stop play by holding the PUCK!!!

  10. They must start getting under the skins of their opponents, make them not want to play the Pittsburgh Penguins!

  11. Rakell is such an underrated player the scoring chances he creates or finishes is always a key part of the games pens win.

  12. Gosh, I Love me some possessed-Geno hockey!!! When he's in that "I'M SCORE" mode of hockey, nobody can hang with him, NOBODY!!!😂😂🐧🐧🏆🏆

  13. I see the rangers still don’t know how to play hockey without being dirty.
