David Volek New York Islanders Overtime Goal To Knock Off Pittsburgh Penguins 1993

David Volek and the underdog New York Islanders stun the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime of Game 7. The best New York Islanders memory from the past 20 years! Mario Lemieux, Kevin Stevens, Ron Francis, Jaromir Jagr, etc. were no match for Steve Thomas, Benoit Hogue, Darius Kasparaitis, Ray Ferraro, Glenn Healy and company!

  1. Greatest moment huh ? this says much pertaining to your feeble existence … (look up pertaining ) … to big a word for you , numb nuts ..

  2. classless? how's that classless? sorry shitsburgh fans but the NHL DOESNT revolve around just your team

  3. btw anyone who says " feeble existence" NEVER palyed a sport in the entire life there SPOCK! go to a star trek convention virgin

  4. Because the Penguins fans chanting lets go sandy at the colliseum were so classy. Go crawl back into your pre crosby burrow pall

  5. Best part about this (aside from the Pens losing; I hate the Pens as an Avs and Bruins supporter) is that it was Ulf Samuelsson that turned the puck over leading to the winning goal. Ulf is without question one of the dirtiest players in the history of the league and I call that karma.

  6. Al Arbour said that the Islanders almost got rid of David Volek at some point during the year and he made sure that they kept him. What a great decision. Long Island loves the legend, Al Arbour. What a series. David Volek! David Volek!

  7. I got to stay up late to watch this. That whole season brings back memories. Now they're moving to Brooklyn

  8. This WAS a great moment in islander history…..obviously doesn't compare to the 80-83 isles, but this was one of the greatest upsets in NHL history.

  9. The goal was scored due to ulf Samuelson deciding to pinch instead of staying back resulting in a 2 on one. Bad decision.

  10. Scott Bowman shoulders a lot of blame for wearing this team out to finish tjhe regular season. Chasing the consecutive win streak wore the veterans, especially Lemieux, down.
