Please god let this happen. I actually think we will be OK with affording Miller and Chytil since they haven’t been as hot lately. Just need to free up some money for VLAD Drury make it happen

Huge for us if this happens. This would give us close to $20 million in cap room. Maybe we’d be able to keep one of our rentals.
Chytil and Miller I think will be ~4-4.5 million each *maybe* $5 million, Laf prob closer to 2 million so that’s about $10 million used right there. So $10 million left… Backup goalie still needed too.. But who does it get spread on? :
– Kane – Tarasenko – Motte – Mikkola
My vote would be Motte and Tarasenko. Motte could sign for ~1.5 Million, and Tarasenko maybe around $5 million? Tarasenko is a hard value to gauge imo.. But that would allow us to have a decent amount of wiggle room for any remaining depth moves and more importantly a backup goalie position.

LMAO I’ll believe it when I see it. Been lied to too many times already that the cap is rising *THIS MUCH* only for the league to be like “whelp best I can do is tree fiddy”

He lies about this every year. Fuck Bettman.

This is kind of what I was told in discussion with a guy who works at the NHL

I appreciate that you went for the optimistic predication mentioned in the article as opposed to what it actually says in the headline. We need that positivity
If we can keep the kids and possibly resign Vlad or Kane (whichever ends up being better through the playoffs), I’d be stoked. Motte would be nice but I’m also fine just trading peanuts for him every year at the deadline.

THG’s video today explained some of the how this could happen. The problem is the remaining $100million debt to be repaid by the players. It’s less than they thought it might have been, but it’s still there. If it’s paid off by season’s end, bam, we’re good.
The alternative is that the NHLPA could agree to an increase in escrow. I still have no clue what that means, but in short I think it means players don’t see all their money when they get paid, and they will eventually see it later. If they agree to a larger escrow going into next season, I guess to help pay off that $100m, they could see a larger cap increase as well.
It’s a crapshoot. Will the NHLPA agree to a larger escrow to help out the overall salary cap issue? Or will they just wait until the whole debt is paid. We’ll have to see.

You couldn’t have been more bait-y with the way you posed this information if you tried.
It also came out today that it’s very likely to only be a $1M increase which would obviously be a very different story.

Every fucking year the league is like “The cap’s gonna go up so much next year!” And then every year it goes up like half a million, and then we repeat the process the next year. The cap’s not going up more than a million this year.
FishermanDear8996
I believe its only going up $1 million. Rangers do have dead cap space coming off the books of $3.4 million. I think they sign Kane – he gets his hips done – goes on long term injured reserve and comes off for next year’s playoffs like Kucherov did for the Lightning. They sign Vladi $5-6 million.

Gary came out and said the salary was only going to increase by $1 million but is open to talks with the NHLPA. There’s no way the NHLPA is gonna concede much of anything. Expect only $1 million

Nobody wants to hear this, including me, but the extra revenue probably came from gambling ads.

I have a really hard time thinking Kane went through all this to come to NY with 2-3 years left he plans to play, only to leave for a different town in a couple of months because we can’t pay him enough.

I am by no means an expert in sports salary cap but the NHL needs to switch to how the MLB does things. This is brutal to deal with every season
