I will be at the game, my first at LCA

  3. AstralPolarBear

Oh great, another game on NHL Network, so I can’t watch… Also can’t watch tomorrow’s game because I get blacked out for St Louis, despite living 4 hours and 2 states away. I’m in southern Indiana/suburban Louisville.

The NHL Network games are ridiculous, because I have never paid for a TV service where it is available. I also have no way of getting access to watch St Louis or Chicago games on a paid TV service, but they are blacked out.

I think if I lived a few miles south in Louisville, my blackouts would be Nashville and Columbus.

    n h l w e b c a s t . c o m boys. Set sail and enjoy the game.

Simon Edvinsson at Red Wings morning skate. Gustav Lindstrom our there, too, so probably will depend on Lindstrom availability if Edvinsson play tonight against Panthers.

  6. Salamangra

Do I watch the Wings game or Shohei Ohtani tonight

    Genuinely a hard choice.

So off topic, then I’ll be back on topic….went to a VGK game yesterday and saw the Eichel hatty. T-Mobile is an amazing arena and the Knights have great fans.

I hope LCA is half as nice and I hope our fans are as nice to visiting people. Don’t get me wrong though I wore knights colors and supported them it’s not like I wore an Aves jersey in there…like I saw some people doing

  8. PremierBromanov

is Ken Kal on cameo because i think id like to give him money to call random video and hockey clips.

This is the first game of the season I’m going to miss. Flying back to the Mitten from California and not going to be able to see a second of it. Hoping for an Edvinsson goal in the highlights

so recently i’ve been looking at the data for some of the worst teams of each season over the last 100 years. i tried to stick to point percentages to normalize across different eras. here are some of the more interesting things i’ve found:

    * the 2019-20 Red Wings finished with a .275 PTS% against the league average of .558 and a .437 PTS% by second-last Ottawa. only 12 teams in the last century have finished the season in last place with a larger gap between them and the league average (>.283), and only three of those also had a larger gap between them and second-last (>.162). that is to say, while it wasn’t even a bottom 10 season by PTS% (tho it *was* the worst since the 1999-00 Thrashers), it was one of the worst relative to their peers in league history

    * the 1922-23 Hamilton Tigers were so bad that they caused the entire rest of the league to be statistically above average. league average PTS% back then was .500, and Hamilton’s .250 meant that the second-last Toronto St Patricks finished with a .563 PTS%. this is the only time in the last century that the second-last team in the league had a PTS% *above* .500

    * speaking of Toronto and being second-last, the 1987-88 Maple Leafs actually made the playoffs with a .325 PTS%, good for second-worst in the league

    * there were two divisions in 1934-35, the Canadian and American divisions. 40% of the teams in the “Canadian” division were actually American teams (St Louis Eagles and the New York Americans)

    * the 2007-08 Tampa Bay Lightning had the highest PTS% of any last place team from the last century at .433, but due to that year’s avg being .555 the title for last place club that was closest to league average goes to the 1958-59 Red Wings who turned in a .414 against a .500 avg

    * people often (rightly) bring up the 1974-75 Washington Capitals with their .131 PTS% as one of the worst teams in history, but you rarely see 1992-93 brought up despite both the Sens and the Sharks finishing with .143 PTS% that year

    * the 1948-49 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 1937-38 Chicago Black Hawks share the honor(?) of being the only two teams in the last 100 years to win the Cup with a sub-.500 PTS% (.475 and .385 respectively)

    * there were six teams in the last century who finished last in the league with a higher PTS% than those 1937-38 Cup-winning Hawks, including the 2015-16 Toronto Maple Leafs who parlayed a .421 PTS% into winning the Auston Matthews sweepstakes

    * the 2019-20 Wings were nearly three times further from league average than the eventual Cup-winning Bolts (DET was .283 below, TBL was .099 above)

    BONUS FACTS:

    * the 1943-44 Montreal Canadiens’ .830 PTS% makes them the most dominant Cup winners of the last century, just barely beating out the 1976-77 Habs’ .825

    * the 2022-23 Boston Bruins currently sit at a PTS% of .804 (good for fifth-most dominant season of the last century) and are on pace to finish with a .793 (good for ninth). of the eight teams above them on that list, five would go on to win the Cup (MTL in 43-44, 75-76, 76-77, and 77-78, and CHI in 12-13) while three would not – the seventh place 95-96 Red Wings, the sixth place 44-45 Habs, and the 1929-30 Boston Bruins who turned in a .875 PTS%, the most dominant season in NHL history

    * despite the talk about how extreme the tank jobs of Chicago/Columbus/Arizona/Anaheim/Montreal/San Jose/Philly are this year, all of them surpassed the 2019-20 Wings’ point total in 14 to 19 fewer games

    * the hockey-reference page for the 2019-20 Wings’ schedule doesn’t have a Length of Game listed for their sixth game, a 5-1 loss to the Canucks. the other 70 games have one listed, but i guess the site was just like “you know what? no. nobody played that game”, which is fair

If winter could fuck off so I could get some fishing in that’d be great. Not enough ice to ice fish, and too cold to wade and try to steelhead.

  12. c_bakewell

Is this game going to be blacked out on BSDET again because it’s on NHL Network? I’m out of state and I don’t think the NHL Network games are broadcast on ESPN+. I do have an Amazon Firestick that gets all the channels, but the recording feature is inconsistent. Am I fucked for watching this game?

  13. matt_minderbinder

I just threw on a Tiger spring training game cause I’m around the house today. I’m not a frequent baseball watcher but I see they’re implementing a time clock between pitches. That’s the best idea for that game. The stupid, time wasting chess game that used to occur between pitches added so much bullshit time to an already painfully slow game. It’s beyond time they cleaned some of that shit up.

  14. sharkbates1208

I’ve gone to the last 5 panthers vs wings games (in florida) and we are 0-5 with a goal differential of 23:8. (-15).

Hopefully it’s different since the game is in Detroit🙏

  15. leafssuck69

I’m gonna have to root for the loss tonight. It affects both our pick and NYI chances of missing

  16. SpiritBamba

Now I know you all will hate me, but this is a huge game for the tank tonight. Arizona/blues/canucks are all within 4 points of us and Florida is trying to catch the islanders. 7th draft position is well within reach now and we should do everything we can to reach that spot. And before you mention not getting bedard well there are tons of elite players in this draft so you really want to be higher in this one, along with the options it gives you to trade.

I don’t know where to insert this, but after seeing /hockey, I want to shoutout the mods in this sub and thank them for letting us talk red wing hockey without having to push agendas

    Good fuckin job
