[Trevor Beggs] Rick Tocchet said this when I asked him about Dakota Joshua. “There’s another level. He can score 20 goals.”

Joshua has 10 goals 19 pts in 68 games this season. Last year he had 3 goals 8 pts in 30 games in STL.
He is 26 years old and is signed for another year at $825k and will become a UFA in 2024.
Rick Tocchet believes every player is one summer away lol
Watching him play, I think he has the skills to do it I just think he needs to be a little faster.
I always notice people catching up to him easily on breakout chances.
Based on what the predators got for Jeannot I’d say Joshua is worth a first second third fourth and fifth rounder
I agree with Tocchet. Watching him all year he clearly has skill and can play like a power forward. Honestly in preseason I thought he was going to be a 4th liner plug at best but he clearly has a higher ceiling.
The thing with these guys who see a bit of daylight against expectation, is if they ever get complacent or cocky it can be a rapid descent the other way. I think that’s going to be his challenge, to just keep working and pushing and not take his spot for granted.

Joshua should be playing on the 3rd line all next year. Not even finished his 1st ye here. Definitely has size and talent.
I’ve had this theory for awhile, that we would start seeing a lot of ~23-25ish year olds break into the league and cement themselves as NHL players.
Basically the guys who would have been challenging for NHL jobs during covid, but got stuck on taxi squads/missed development time during the pandemic.
But does he have a gleam in his eye?
I’m really liking tocchet as a coach. He’s keeping it pretty real and also building guys up. Positive for development
I think Joshua definitely has another level he can get to. He has the hands, and is a big body so he can throw his weight around in the corners or in front of the net if he wants. He’s been a great pickup
After all the six million dollar plodders we had to endure, having these guys in the bottom six is a joy! Good energy, hustle, mixing things up and potting some fucking goals.
It’s almost giving my grumpy disposition some hope.
I believe Tocc on this. I’ve gotten a lot of flack for believing in Joshua, and even proposing the idea of “development” because he’s “so old, what you see is what you get” type of crap.
Joshua is the type of player you hold onto, and *a part* of what you build your bottom 6 around.
Very good chance that he can be a better goal scoring version of Ryan Reeves.
Yeah I’ve felt that way for a while. Makes me wonder if he wouldn’t be a better fit on Millers line then PDG. Obviously PDG has worked in that 2nd line spot and his board play and tenacity are assets. But Joshua is bigger, younger, and perhaps a better goal scorer than PDG. Ideally thats Mikheyevs spot anyways, but if we start losing again and this momentum fades, I’d like to see DJ in an elevated role to see if he can kick it up a notch.
He’s been such a good pickup.
Bottom six always do well under Tocchet.
Let’s hope he can find a way to sustain wins
He doesnt create plays the best but he is great at being the #2 guy in the zone
Big body lots of confidence just diving the net and great in corners too
He had 35 points in 33 games as a sophomore for Ohio State. Not sure if 20 goals is possible but he’s not just a plug.
Well, yeah, but what about his x-factor?
I believe it though. Some of the goals he scores are sick, they’re not your typical 4th line grinder goals. Big body with speed and skill.
His 5v5 defense isn’t good. He loses his man and it results in easy goals or high-danger chances. I don’t care if he scores 20, unless he can tighten up his defensive coverage
Ngl. Joshua has the tools. Speed. Size. Good hands.
