Easy, you sit Matthews who hasn't been carrying the weight of his contract and dress Knies.
He's like 20th in conference scoring as a sophomore. He's no top prospect, just in delusional leaf land.
Leafs have to stop tinkering and commit to a line-up. They are treating this squad like a Junior Chemistry Kit .The Leafs need cohesion, an identity, and a sense of TEAM. Although the pieces they added at the trade deadline were better, the sum of the parts may not be.

I am definitely managing my expectations on this kid.
I have seen too many young players from the CHL, NCAA, Euro Leagues over hyped by the media and social media that get thrown into the NHL lineup and within 5-10 games it is clear they should be down in the minors developing.
I hope I eat my words on this kid, but we will see.
For Knies sake – better see in Matthews leaves the Leafs or signs another long term Leaf contract – before bringing Knies in to play with this Leafs core – prior to it being dismantled with another playoff disappointment this spring.
I think they need to bring him in asap. Get him acclimated to the NHL game, hes got 5-10 games to get some experience. Injuries may come during the playoffs and you want a guy who has some NHL games under his belt and not just fed to the wolves.
Knies is a good depth scorer and somebody who can play on the second or third line depending on the opponent. I hope he gets some playing time in the playoffs. Even if its seven minutes.
