GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Capitals (03.25.23) | Team Effort in Divisional Battle

After splitting their two-game road trip, the Penguins returned home to Pittsburgh for a divisional matchup with playoff implications against the Washington Capitals. The first period of play was quiet from both sides as the goalies kept the game scoreless. Pittsburgh came to play in the second, tallying two goals from Ryan Poehling and Chad Ruhwedel. Casey DeSmith made some dazzling saves in the period as well as the Penguins took a 2-0 lead into the final intermission. Pittsburgh wasted no time coming out of the break as Jake Guentzel buried home his 32nd goal of the season to extend the Penguins lead to 3. The Capitals wouldn’t go away quietly though as they scored three unanswered in the third to tie things up 3-3. With under two minutes on the clock, Evgeni Malkin came in clutch for Pittsburgh, delivering what would be the game-winning goal.

  1. Lord, no wonder our goalies get hurt. They had DeSmith bending crazy in every direction.

  2. So we shat our pants again and got lucky with a giveaway and Malkin goal, awesome.
