    We. Are. Not. Good.

It doesn’t matter that we have 100 points. It doesn’t matter that we have guys with great individual talent. We either have a good night or we embarrass ourselves, sometimes even simultaneously. This team ran before they could crawl and our best is often still dysfunctional. I honestly don’t know what it’ll take for them to be competitive, let alone a contender

  2. Skooter_McGaven

These big brain moves need to end. If you aren’t going to go with a lineup in the playoffs than don’t do it now. We don’t need to get Brendan Smith reps, Miles Wood brings absolutely nothing to the table, we don’t need Hughes double shifting. Let these guys het some chemistry for fuck sake.

  3. RakimWebster

Devils have their first round playoff match waiting for them on Thursday. Rangers will likely win against CBJ tmrw and continue to stay very hot. It’s no longer a race for the division but a race for home ice advantage. Huge fucking test to say the very least. I just hope they’re ready to strap in. And for the love of god, get fucking physical.

  4. Spoonbread

Struggling to figure out why they’re going with 11/7 at this point.

If health concerns are already an issue for the bottom 6 they should be getting Foote game reps so he’s comfortable being the next man up in the playoffs. Instead they’re juggling an extra D who’s already as settled in as they’re going to be instead of using their depth to rest/rotate them. That leads to double shifting the top 6 forwards right before the playoff marathon starts for no reason.

I’ve wondered how much lineup construction is influenced by the FO since they’ve definitely done some of that this year. Regardless of who made the decision its REALLY stupid.

Just so happens that the Devils chase after putting out shoddy line construction then look way more poised when Lindy puts players that play well together back together halfway through the game to claw out of a hole. If it happens a few times in key games its brilliant coaching. If it happens in literally 50% of the teams wins this season its poor asset management.

I’m so happy March is coming to end. At least it wasn’t as bad as December and we had some wins peppered in this month.

My only hope is that last time a win against the Rags set us on a nice winning streak in January so I hope that’s how we end the season.

Please stop this 11/7 experiment immediately.

Now I gotta get out of UBS without being attacked like I was last time I was here in Dec 2021.

    Satanspeed to me.

  6. Lookin4Rockets

Lindy has to go after this year. He’s going to be the main reason we can’t retain Timo and i’m going to be so god damn pissed when Timo leaves. Not at Timo, because i would leave if i was him too. I’m going to be so pissed off at Lindy for holding us back from our true potential and wasting our draft picks and solid players on what turns out to be a rental

  7. gothenburgpig

Haula singlehandedly keeping our no shutout streak alive

  8. HopelessEsq

First to get this out there to all the doomers, there is zero chance that Lindy Ruff will not be the coach of this team for the playoffs, and likely for the next several years. For fucks sake, there was just a segment during the game about him potentially winning the Jack Adams award as coach of the year. It’s not going to happen no matter how much you complain about it. These are pretty much free games, Lindy isn’t getting fired over them.

That being said, probably about the worst offensive performance by the team this season. With really good goalies it takes us time to crack them and by the time we showed up to play in the third it was too little too late. First two periods were garbage. Not a fan of the 7-11 roster and line changes but I’ll chalk that up to trying out to see which combinations work best while losses don’t matter as much. We always seem to have a tough time against the Isles, hope we don’t see them in the first round.

  9. We need goaltending. Let’s trade for Demko.

  10. chiefwillis92

I’d love to be proven wrong but the way the team has been playing lately its going to be a very quick exit from the playoffs. Goaltending has been subpar, constant problems with zone exits, defensive breakdowns, frequently giving up the first goal or multiple goals in a quick succession. I don’t want to be a doomer and I’d love for this team to make a run but the past 2/3 weeks have been pretty rough.

  11. Isles are fighting for their lives and just lost to the Sabres and blue jackets. devils have been in a funk for a month now gotta get their shit together. Isles are not a contending team

  12. Reveillark139

Boqvist should be in for Wood at this point. Wood is legit awful.

  13. sayitaintpete

Can anyone recommend a product that can be thrown at a wall? Ideally something that shatters harmlessly and does no damage to my house

  14. Something needs to be done with our defensive system, that second goal was fucking embarassing

  15. kumquat731

It’s been ugly but can’t give up yet. Two days to prepare for the rags and then 7 more games after that to get their shit together

  16. Laymans_Terms19

Are we allowed to get negative or we still not all there yet?

Edit: still not there yet. I’ll check back Thursday after we get thoroughly embarrassed by the Rangers.

  17. Anonycron

Not a playoff ready team, ya’ll.

They have time to figure it out and stabilize things, but the lines really have to be settled. At this point in the year you want your expected playoffs lines to be polishing up their chemistry… instead, each night our lines are learning how to play (or re-learning how to play again) with each other.

  18. ryanwest19

Yeah that was pathetic. Don’t wanna go into the playoffs stumbling like this

  19. bandits2697

Really don’t care about playoff seeding / home ice advantage at this point. Alls I’m asking for these last 8 games is to figure things out and be ready for a dog fight against the rangers. Would love to see this team play at the level they did all of February, they were practically unstoppable

  20. mikefred2014

At some point you run out of games to fix shit. Where is our desperation to win?

  21. quantum_monster

Going 11F-7D really locked down the defense and had no effect on scoring, right?

And I’m sure shuffling lines like a Vegas dealer is also working very well

We need to snap this nonsense before the playoffs. Hell, were in danger of sliding down to 3rd in the Metro which is just about unacceptable

  22. It’s hard to emphasize how much I’m not having fun

  23. ffffrrrruuuaaaaa

Since we are a better away team, Lindy playing 4d chess by tanking our home ice advantage

  24. LaHondaSkyline

The Devils have overall played some of their worst hockey of the year in the month of March, and certainly have been much more inconsistent this month than in any other month of the season.

Tonight was just a very poor effort (with the focus on the word EFFORT). They played two rally bad periods, brought some effort in the third, but then had a very bad end of the third.

Is it the line blender or 11-7? I do not think so (though those things are not helping the cause either).

I just see two things: (1) They have a lot more poor effort/lack of mental focus games this month (tonight for sure), probably just because it is a long season, still a mostly young team, and they have not figured out how to play hard for a full season. (2) I think they are botching the Meier acquisition. As an individual player, Meier mostly looks good out there. But he only has 6 points with the Devils, and they are not finding the right approach to maximize his skill set. Ruff has to recognize this, and figure out how to maximize Meier’s scoring ability.

  25. RakimWebster

8 games left. I’m gonna get a lil mathematical here and say that’s just about 10% of the nhl season. Lotta hockey left to play still. we know damn well they can go on a winning streak or get a little hot in 8 games. Let’s go now

  26. chefboleson

they’re pretty evidently using these meaningless games to experiment and see what meshes best for playoffs & we’re somehow up in arms and using these losses as means to believe theyre not playoff ready and we’ll be easy first round exists or something lmfao. if anythings legitimately concerning its bruno’s stupidly stacked powerplay full of shiny new toys still being unable to convert + the stars not taking over a game like this. meier should not have 6 points as a devil either

  27. Everyone crying needs to relax. We haven’t been playing the best hockey, sure. We also have been playing A LOT of hockey this stretch.

Our goal make it to the playoffs. The cup would be great, but we aren’t there yet.

  28. mikefred2014

Hopefully this team comes out humming against the Rangers. If we pull the same performance as tonight again on Thursday, I don’t like our chances moving forward. Please show some desperation and play 12 forwards on Thursday. Please.

  29. luzer_kidd

That was the most pathetic excuse of calling a distinct kicking motion. If I was that bad at my job I would be fired.

  30. lobsterdog666

Still time to Cloud Julien this fraud coach before the playoffs start, Tom

  31. DrunkAndRunning

Call me an optimist but 7 games is plenty of time to turn things around. I still think we’ll see a strong performance in the post season.

  32. ghostwalken1776

Ehh..it’s wasn’t a bad game..they just couldn’t get the engine revving till they figured out the box plus one..and even when they did figure it out it wasn’t for lack of trying to score it was just shooting into a fundamentally sound goaltender..the games are only going to get more physical and the opposing team is not likely to be in a shoot-out/barn burner style of game. Defense wins championships and most teams that make it play some version of a trap and that’s exactly what I saw the islanders doing…tighten up the defensive lapse and this team will be just fine..shit, clinched a postseason birth and we were expecting the boys to be fighting for a playoff spot.

  33. DaMammyNuns

They clearly need some practice days. Everything is pretty disjointed right now, and Meier especially looks like he isn’t sure where he should be a lot of the time. He still shows off his individual power skill set every game, but he has not meshed at all yet.

I’m hoping that’s due to the lack of practice time from this crazy schedule.
