The New York Islanders scored their first shootout win in six attempts as they edged the Washington Capitals 2-1. Ilya Sorokin was his usual stellar self and Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri scored in the shootout while Pierre Engvall scored the only goal during the first 65 minutes.

lol When they went into the shootout I was thinking getting the 1 point isn't a disaster. Them going 2 for 2 in the shootout is a major miracle. Sorokin has to be a serious contender for MVP and/or Vezina. I wonder how many shutouts and 1 goal games he has had. The opposition does a lot of head shaking when he's on it.
That was a dumb hit by Mayfield. So avoidable. It's probably the reason Ovi gave Pelech a bit extra.
Good morning all. Gil, another awesome show! I look forward to your podcast every day and I miss it on the weekend! I was wondering who would be your goat of the game. I couldn't come up with a goat either. I am so So SO EXCITED to see this HUGE win, after winning 2 points in a SHOOT OUT!! I did a little bit of math and I'm happy to say what I'm sure many of you already know. The Penguins and Panthers are fighting with us for the last 2 wild card playoff spots. If winning all their remaining games, the Panthers can reach 95 points for the season. The magic point total for us against the Panthers is 8 (combined Islander point wins AND Panther point losses), guarantees the Islanders of at least the 2nd wild card spot. If winning all their remaining games, the Penguins can reach 98 points for the season. The magic point total for us against the Penguins is 11 (combined Islander point wins AND Penguins point losses), guarantees the Islanders of the 1st wild card spot. My magic point number assumes the Islanders would have the tie breaker advantage over the 2 teams. If I'm wrong about calculations, please feel free to correct me. I don't claim to be perfect, all the time, and you won't hurt my feelings haha.

I wasn't a big fan of that ovectkin hit. I know you can't take a penalty but…..I don't like it.
Amazing the two shoot out goals were only isles second and third s o goals of the season. Imagine what isles could do with an actual nhl offense. Lou gets queasy at the thought of a guy scoring goals. Meanwhile vrana who could have been had for a measly seventh has scored 8 goals in 12 games as a blue. Lou really is a boob. Oh well it looks like two more wins 92 points will do it.
