Rewatch the 3rd goal from the oilers, youll see how many times reilly and holl couldve cleared the zone, including on the original zone entry 1:30 before. That pairing is horrible
Gio should be playing with Lijlegren for 1st line and second line with Reily and Brodie and MCcabe with Holl but Holl has not hit all year like that so I guess he thought he was the next guy on the trading block but he does not know how to fight and the big 5 was not in sink tonight when your 3rd and fourth line looked better and were still soft to play against in the lineup and where is Simmonds. BIG Money players not gettting it done tonight because we traded from weaker teams in the NH and we missed Sandin skill tonight the he can manuver the puck in tight corners and around the boards in his own end.
Keep holl he was the only one to hit oilers captain and Yamamoto and try to rally he team to play and he team just let the oilers walk on them. Trade Nylander he didn't play two way hockey and hit and play. He a Puck hog.

We all knew this was going to go bad. You don't make three trades for six players and go out and beat Edmonton with McDavid sailing. We thrash Calgary tonight.
But but but they acquired all those players and the fanbase was singing "plan the parade" hahaahah Give it a week they'll praise Holl, then hate on Bunting for not keeping his mouth shut. Then they'll want Murray back, because Sammy took another dump, then Woll the 3rd stringer will have to carry the team to keep pucks out of the net. When i watch Toronto play , i just cant help but think, theses Millionaires just dont want to put forth and dig down deep for it , for those's of you that are young, the playes in the 80s were not set for life after a single NHL season, and they worked themselves to death to WIN, i just watch and shake my head , JT making 15 MILLION Canadian a NO SHOW vs Edmonton . 6'4 Justin Holl hits 5'7 Yammamotto and then gets destroyed by Nuge… it's embarassing at this point. I feel for the guy he gets overhated, solid PK guy and bottom 6. No idea why Keefe puts him with 44 and plays him 20+ mins. He would be solid as a bottom pair guy with 12-14 mins.
OK… Here’s the thing. I’m not a big Justin Holl fan. I would be perfectly OK with seeing him in another jersey, or up in the press box as our seventh defenseman. But as Leaf fans, we are infamous for creating mass hysteria related to one player, while ignoring an obvious elephant(s) in the room. Justin Holl was a minus one last night. He didn’t give any pucks away that led to goals. He played a typical game where he really didn’t matter one way or the other. In fact, you could make the argument that he played the most physical game of his career (too little, to late for me, but there it is…). Here's what ACTUALLY happened last night:
1-0 Oilers = Mitch Marner hangs on to the puck too long while on the PK at the Oilers blueline, instead of dumping it in he loses it and Oilers come straight back on attack. Brodie goes to Draitsydl, who is basically in the the corner, instead of staying with McDavid who gets two shots and scores (with Samsonov losing his net after overplaying the Draisidel shot).
2-1 Oilers = Lafferty's pass goes off Hyman's skate near Leaf's bench, causing a turn over. McDavid takes a pass from Shore, then proceeds to make Liljgren look like a human pretzel, and catches Samsonov cheating a bit to his right to score.
3-1 Oilers = Oilers hem the Tavares line in the Leaf zone. Nylander wanders around the ice like he's just learning how to skate, and the rest of the forward line looks bagged. Holl is one the ice, covering the man in front when Hyman gets two chances to score from the high slot, and buries the 2nd one. No Leaf forward able/willing to pick him up. Hight slot is not a defenseman's responsibility.
4-1 Oilers = Holl passed puck to Marner along the wall in Leaf zone. Instead of protecting the puck, or chipping it off the boards and out, Marner inexplicably passes it back to Holl in the corner (where there are two Oilers). Puck eventually comes around to the point where a flukely high slot deflection perfectly finds the top corner. This is one of the plays that Keefe must have been referencing when he said "We didn't play with much focus or intelligence tonight". Mitch needs to put a filter between his brains and hands that helps him make better decisions in these situations. Plays like this cost you play off games (and series).
5-1 Oilers = Kamph (with zero pressure) loses the puck at the Leaf's blueline resulting in a turnover. Kampf pursues the puck, an Liljgren does his best "half pregnant" imitation, charging at the Oiler puck carrier, then changing his mind leaving Brodie to defend a 2-1 resulting in a tap in goal.
There it is. I don't know how you reconcile all with with "Justin Holl is the problem", Sorry bro, but that's just lazy or hate clouding the reality which is that Liljgren was horrible and the Leaf's top 6 forward were absolute trash. William Nylander was -3, John Tavares was -2. In fact, the only Leafs’ defensemen who wasn’t a minus was Jake McCabe. And the only forwards who weren’t minus play on the Leafs’ third and fourth line.
We can pretend that one defenceman that everyone loves to hate was the problem last night, and when things don’t go right. But the reality is that this team is going to succeed or fail based on whether or not half a dozen players who make well over $5 million a year care enough to do what it takes to get this team to the next level. If Justin Holl doesn’t play in last night’s game, you think the Leafs get a W? This team has an elite culture issue. As a fan of this club my hope is that the lunch bucket type players that are brought in here help change that. My gut tells me it’s not likely to happen. Entitlement is a difficult thing to break and Dubas should ultimately be judged on the fact that he refused to make changes to the core group who have proven to play games like last night's far too often, and when it matters the most.

This is honestly a bad take……I get stats aren’t everything….but they don’t lie…Holl is +13 this year (hell he’s a +56 on his career) and his PK stats are incredible….even 5v5 his stats aren’t bad at all……you dwell on the bone head mistakes, and yes they happen…..but even look at his corsi stats….for a player making what 2mill a year and putting up the type of minutes and pk time Holl does……it doesn’t lie………so put your unjust hate aside….and think about it intellectually……maybe you won’t blow a gasket

I respect Bourne, love the show, but hearing him today talk about Holl played his best game of the year last night had me confused. Did we watch the same game? He was terrible, like embarrassing bad. Dangle said it well, we already know the way he plays, just because he hit and fought one night when the leafs are trade crazy and have 9 D on the roster doesn’t mean that’s who he is. If you actually watched Holl shift after shift last night it was a joke… Happy someone’s saying it.
