This call would make any NHL hockey coach FURIOUS…

Let’s be honest.. NHL officiating this season hasn’t been spectacular.. In fact.. theres been many instances that will just leave you flat out scratching your head as a hockey fan. But In this game between the Pittsburgh Penguins vs The Detroit Red Wings.. we saw Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde absolutely lose it after this coaches challenge was called a goal. We break down the call, and how the confusion around goalie interference can change the dynamic of the NHL playoffs.

  1. Umm. . I think the goalie put the puck 100% over the line before the guy's stick came win contact with the pad. In fact you can see the guy's stick push the skate away from the line. IMO.

  2. As a goalie, I hate when someone pushes me into the net when the puck is under me. You can’t anchor in every time the puck is under your pad.
I think it’s GI even in pick-up hockey; the guys I play with don’t count any goals scored that way.

  3. looks like his stick goes under the pad, doesn't actually push it over the line

  4. Yes once again very bad officiating. This is obviously goaltender interference which is a "NO goal" call. What a shame.

  5. I watched this game and had the same reaction as Coach did.. W.. T.. FUCK?! I get we have a bunch of young officials but this was decided by Toronto! Get your shit together NHL this kind of shit needs to get sorted out once and for all. The players have no clue what to do. The coaches don't know what to do. You're confusing and pissing off the fans.. FIX IT!

  6. It is my understanding that if the puck is under the goalie’s skate then you can stab at it. I play goalie in beer league and this has happened to me. On one of the views last night that is what it looks like to me. My opinion.

My son use to ref and it is a tough job, just saying. You try to be consistent.

    We need more refs everyone!!!

  7. Pfffffttt! Canucks have had games were two video reviewed goals were called completely ass-backwards! And I’ve lost count on how many they’d had over the past 10-11 seasons…

  8. Terrible blown call.

NHL needs to vastly simplify the rule. I don't care how; just make a rule that is easily enforceable.

  9. I was at this game and I didn't even realize coach was thrown out of the game until the next day lol. Btw this game was 🔥🔥🔥. Such an awesome experience

  10. yo team!! would love to connect but couldn't find an email address to contact you, please let me know how or where and lets talk :)!

  11. A one-handed hooking call on Walman to give the Pens a 5 on 3 was ALMOST as bad as this call or lack of.

  12. Everyone needs to stop blaming the refs. Toronto is the one that makes the final call.

Toronto probably called it a goal cause puck looked like it cross thr goal line from the back angle and then he got pushed in. I'm just speculating that's probably why.

But in my opinion it shouldn't have been a goal.

Cause nhl seems like the nfl know. They both don't know there own rules.

  13. Once upon a time, when the puck was covered, it was COVERED! Blow the f*#king whistle asshole!! No hacking or pushing!!

  14. if you dig for the puck and the whistle hasn't been blown what makes it goaltender interference? Does the goaltender have to be pushed for it to be ruled GI?

  15. Fuck all NHL refs. They are all garbage and should be replaced by AI powered cameras. ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT BE WORSE THAN WHAT WE GET NOW!

  16. Playing devils advocate, maybe the refs saw the flex in Ned's leg as a reaction to be hit by Zucker's stick but only Ned will know if he gave enough force to constitute a push. I don't think there's any "fixing it" tbh; it's a judgement call not something you definitively define. With scrambles in the crease it's 50/50 so just make sure you wear your lucky jock strap.

  17. That's true – it'll be critical in playoffs. Too many men on the ice was horrible last year in the playoffs. Line changes gradually got more and more aggressive and then they would randomly get called during play or during review.

  18. Way too close, even on reviews. Thats what the guys in the stripes get paid to call. Fans would obviously line up with their team. I wonder what the league office would rule (after the fact) under a league review (if they do that)?

  19. gary should go as fast as possible and let his place to someone competent

  20. The league making fools of themselves once again… that's the 22'-23' season in a nut shell. And despite a free goal from the NHL, the Penguins still couldn't get it done! The blatent attempts at match fixing are hilarious like OBVIOUSLY they want Crosby and the Penguins in the playoffs and thought they could help them with 2 points here… Red Wings were having none of it, coach got fired up and so did the bench!

  21. I’m not sure what’s worse, the goalie interference or the “distinct kicking motion” nonsense. I haven’t watched as much hockey this year as I usually do, but there was a blatant kick-in goal against the Sabres a few weeks ago that was ruled a goal after the challenge. And everyone I was watching the game with agreed: “if that’s not a ‘distinct kicking motion’ then idk what is.”

  22. Too bad it wasn't goaltender interference. At the one angle you can clearly see his skate was already going in the direction and possibly been already over the line before he used his stick against his pad. Which to OVERTURN a call in the NHL it HAS to be 100% certain and evidential that, that was the case. Unfortunately with video review there is zero proof that the goal was resulting in him pushing his stick into his pads.

  23. soooo what it is goaltender interference? the lightest touch by accident is goaltender interference butb a very clearly on purpose little push at the pad on the red wings goaltender isnt goalie interference??? WTF???

  24. common people. you move a hockey team to vegas………football team. soon a baseball team and basketball team.

And people wonder why games of all sorts are going a certain way? please.

  25. like thats blatant goal tender interference, a player moving the goalie within the blue paint is a no goal you dont have to be a rocket scientist to make the right call

  26. I think Bettman should fire every ref then be one himself. Or stop being such a snobby old fart

  27. if the stick was touching the puck then good goal even if touching pad if stick only touching the pad no goal , imo .

  28. I mean it's so hard to get right! You can only literally see Zucker's damn stick FLEX as he leans into it as he moves a whole entire goalie and that causes puck to cross line. So tricky to get that right…when Toronto knows what everyone has for bets on the over or the puck line ,they just need to try to make the betters happy now! That's how f$cked up gambling is!

  29. 2 times (!!) the refs straight up lied to our faces, here:

    1. by pretending that this was not goalie interference — which it clearly was!
(Looking at a review and pretending NOT to see obvious facts — veteran move by seasoned frauds!)

    2. by pretending that the "on ice call" was "good goal", which we all know it wasn't!

It's a travesty to think that Lalonde got ejected here,
    AND
that the principal of "on-ice call takes precedence in case of doubt" gets flipped on its head here, by a "who gets to challenge first, wins the call!" sorta mentality…
    #corruptNHL!

+ Did this result in a powerplay?
    Outrageous to think that!
Adding insult ]and even more insult!] to injury!

    A questionable goal
The on ice call gets it right (no-goal!)
[Multiple] reviews selectively (!) get it wrong
    Insane!

I guess they felt like it would have been shameful, to reverse their decision twice in a row (if it wasn't outright game-fixing!), but this actually is much more scathing of a decision!

… it would have been different, if both mistakes (I. Did it cross the line? II. Was it legal?) where disproportionate in scope, where the second was such a minor incident that normally (i) it would not be held against the scorer… but this clearly isn't the case here!

It's a pick-and-choose of equally relevant complaints, that randomly gets acknowledged or rejected to arrive at an arbitrary decision, which has nothing in common with consistent reffing, accountability and fair competition!
Only a very corrupt league could present such inconsistency week after week pretending, that we all don't know that this is corrupt!

This nonsense is on the level of "Wrestling", NOT of something worthy to be called "professional gambling sports" !

    – – – – –

    i) atleast 90% of the time… and thats actually pretty low expectations for matters of consistency in "professional" sports!

  30. Whos surprised that the nhl is trying to help the pens in any way they can. Joke franchise that needs the game rigged for them to not leave Pittsburgh.
