Ovechkin hit on Pelech – Have your say!

Alex Ovechkin folded Adam Pelech at the waist, sending him awkwardly into and partially the half boards at the Capitals bench. Unfortunate accident on a clean check, or is there a case for boarding? Have your say!

  1. No suspension, but maybe a penalty. No need to have his hands up and out and try to push him over the boards. The first was nice shoulder to shoulder and could have knocked him hard. But he wanted the extra, to push him over. Roughing or boarding or something. But not a wildly egregious foul.

  2. The extra gloves in the face takes it from a clean hit to a dirty one.

Keep playing like this he is going to get some retaliation. Maybe no new goals record for the old man if he keeps picking fights.

  3. Initially, it's a textbook Crosscheck, before Ovechkin pulls right hand off stick, but horse had left the barn. Two-minute minor, minimum.

  4. ovechkin plays hard but this is just another example of him trying to hurt someone. I love a good hit as much as anyone and hate seeing the game turn into shinny but this is a cheap shot. Anyone with any respect for other players safety would have let up on this one. The hands in the face to try to get him to double over into the bench was just as classy. What goes around comes around in this game kids.

  5. Looks like his upper hand follows through into the face. Definitely worth a head contact penalty in minor hockey. In the NHL maybe he gets a high stick for it if the ref sees.

  6. clean, but not necessary to bury a guy in a defenseless spot on the short boards. If there's glass there, it's not as bad

  7. Charging – Charging is the action where a player takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent.

  8. Typical Ovechkin hit. Got him so clean but hit him so hard it looks like it could be a penalty. Reminds me of Malkin getting destroyed by him behind the net lik ten years ago

  9. He isn't my favorite player these days… but it wasn't from behind. There was no head contact. Elbows were in at contact… clean! It's just unfortunate for buddy to be that distance from the boards.

  10. – no leaving of feet
    – not in a dangerous position when hit
    – primary (and only significant) point of contact is Pelech's shoulder
    – not from behind
Only thing someone could argue, potentially, is that you shouldn't hit anyone when they are near the player boxes since there's no glass there. Bad argument, but someone could make it.

  11. The end of it turns into a bad one. Hand and stick get high. But he has a history of dirty deeds if this was a first time probably wouldn't think much of it. Past history…..

  12. It's called Hockey. If you think that was dirty, maybe tennis is more your speed. Or chess.

  13. Clean. Ovi is an old school gen where open ice hits were legal in his time. Idk I’m 29. When I was a kid I watched Scott Stevens, kalata, carcillo, and more of that time lay people the fck out. Now I couldn’t tell ya what’s an illegal hit today

  14. Doesn’t look like boarding to me, but kinda looks like a high stick? I’d say the outcome makes the hit look worse than it actually was though.
