Random King of the Day: Matt Greene. 464 GP / 16 G / 51 A / 67 Pts / +21 / 458 PIM / 2x Stanley Cup Champion. A tough-as-nails defensive defenseman who would run others through the boards and sacrifice his body nightly. Pivotal to the Kings success in 2012 and 2014. He gave it all. Legend.

I saw him at a Future Islands concert the summer after the won in 2014 (I think) and I did a double take on him like “holy shit it’s Greener!” He’s also fucking huge. I’m over 6’5” but he was just a massive presence. I politely nodded at him and he came over and gave me a handshake and said he couldn’t believe someone knew who he was here. I offered to buy him a beer and he declined. Good dude.
Last I heard he still lives in Manhattan Beach and drives a low rider.
Greene and McNabb were super helpful in 2014. We had such a massive team. It’s wild to look back at how big these guys used to be and it makes sense how we’d just bring them down.
Fuck I miss having dudes like Greene on the team. Could really use his presence in match ups like tonight.
Green was such a fucking tank. Miss him and Mitchell on the blue line the most
A fucking warrior.
I still remember the look on his face when he drove to net and tipped one in. The utter shock that it went off his stick and in to the net. Classic Matt Greene. I’m so happy he’s still with the organization.
Matt Greene’s cousin is the dummer for Haim. I saw them during the 1989 tour, and he rocked Greener’s jersey during the show.
Miss greenie. He gave a great speech at Browns ceremony
The only Kings jersey I have is Matt Greene

Greene blocked a shot with his head with less than 20 seconds left in the 3rd to preserve a one-goal lead, and wound up winning the game. I think this picture was a banner in the practice arena for several years afterward.
Fucking love this guy! The first Kings jersey I ever bought was his!
