GAME RECAP: Penguins at Devils (04.04.23) | Penguins Hunt for Playoff Spot

The New Jersey Devils welcomed the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night. With the Penguins on the hunt for a playoff spot, they started strong applying pressure on the Devils. Unfortunately, the Devils were able to light the lamp first taking a 1-0 lead halfway through the 1st. With five minutes left in the period, the Devils scored a second goal on an odd-man rush. The period ended 2-0 for New Jersey. In the 2nd period, the Devils doubled their lead to make the score 4-0. They added a fifth goal to the scoreboard early in the 3rd. The Penguins finally had an answer for the Devils after six minutes of play in the 3rd. Bryan Rust tipped a quick shot from P.O. Joesph at the point. This brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Devils. The score remained the same for the rest of the game giving the Devils the victory.

  1. We did not at all play to our peak performance tonight. Can only blame Jarry for the 4th goal, besides that it was all ugly on the defense and on turnovers. Atleast someone scored. Throw this away as quickly as possible, we need to win these next 4 games, and it only gets harder. Potentially welcoming back Fleury in Pittsburgh the 6th.

  2. Surreal. Wasting a healthy Crosby season is criminal.
Team was nearly a sure bet for opps to score hattys and break losing streaks. Roster and system ain't working.

  3. This team doesn't deserve to get in the playoffs. If they do, one and done. They simply aren't good enough. I love the Pens. Since 1990. But it's time to face facts. And fix this team for next year. Meaning EVERY job is up for grabs.

  4. Another awful performance from great and high potential players on Pens. I would say Refs hurt them with a no call on Dumo but even with powerplays… the Pens can't even generate good chances.

  5. Ownership, playoffs or not, please remove Hexstall in the offseason. He was chased out of the GM position in Philadelphia for a reason. He’s among the most incompetent GMs in the league.

  6. Tired of the same thing under Sullivan for Soooo long. Too cute, lot's of possession but too few real opportunities actually created, 'cos always looking for the pretty play, even when down by 5. On nights when we're scoring a hatful with finese, fine, but we don't ever adapt our game when that doesn't work. We're at home screaming Shoot! Just throw it on net! Just do the simple things, but they only have one gear.

  7. On the brink of missing the playoffs and this is the performance they give us? Seriously? It’s obvious this team doesn’t want to go anywhere. Coaching seems horrendous too.

  8. Pens keep giving the opponents way too many 2/3/4 on 1's, even on the powerplay
