David Alter: The #Leafs have indeed called up Wayne Simmonds while assigning Joseph Woll to the Marlies. Toronto can do this since Matt Murray is not on any sort of injured list and they have two goalies on their roster. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Just a thought, but this very well could be the move *because* Murray is about to go on the IR. Once they do that I believe they will then be eligible to call up Woll as an “Emergency Recall” and be without a caphit for him the rest of the season giving them the space for both Simmonds and Woll.
Likely cap gymnastics and possibly giving Simmonds his last home game as a Leaf. EBUG and Simmonds -> Simmonds down, emergency recall Woll and room to sign Knies after Saturday.
Mirtle replied “that’s possible IMO” to this twitter comment: “Wonder if there is some outside chance at a weird EBUG backup situation tomorrow to then get Woll on an emergency recall, send down Simmonds and then sign Knies? As it stands with three goalies on the roster I think their situation is murky?”
