Caps off-season

Shoutout nova caps they do a great job. Two things in this article I think are improbable but would be ideal: 1.) if we could convince Backstrom to retire. His cap hit is way too high and unless he’s willing to restructure it’s just not feasible. All the respect in the world for trying to come back against all the odds and he is an all-time capital. His time is over unfortunately though and I hope he keeps the team in mind when evaluating that decision.

2.) trading Carlson would be great with his cap and decline in play. Not sure who would take him but I could see an Arizona cap dump type deal there. (Hopefully mantha too)

If those happen that would open like 18 mil in cap with what we already have. Can easily sign a top defenseman or 2 and top six forward, fill out the 3rd and fourth lines. Obviously talking super hypothetical. Also I think there is a good chance we move Lapierre or Mcmichael. More than likely Lap which I don’t like but there’s no way we don’t take a big swing with Ovi on the roster I’d think.

Nova is better than that hack rmnb tabloid fodder.

Wouldn’t be opposed to freeing up space at the expense of vets. It’s a business.

Agree on Backs 100 percent. Nothing but love and respect for what he’s done for the club but, like everyone who ages, he has lost that step. If he was back to first line quality and able to feed Ovi it would be a different story, but if he is not generating wins or goals for Ovi it doesn’t help the team. As for Carlson, a couple of different with and without comparisons have been done during his injury, and my main thought on keeping him is that the power play is more potent with him. For the longer term, you might be right to trade him for cheaper and younger but if we want Ovi getting power Play goals I lean towards having him stay. Thankfully I’m not a general manager and don’t actually have to make these decisions 🙂
