Gagner became the 13th player to score 8 points or more in a single game in NHL history.

Gagner became the first NHL player to score eight points in a regular-season or playoff game since Mario Lemieux on April 25, 1989, which makes 3 months and 15 days before his birth.

Gagner is only the 2nd player in NHL history to record a point on every one of his team’s goals in a game in which his team scored at least 8 times. Mario Lemieux scored 5 goals and had 3 helpers in an 8-6 win for the Penguins over the Devils on December 31, 1988.

The Oilers are the first NHL franchise to have three players score 8 points in a game.

The Oilers are the first NHL franchise to have players score 8 points in a game four times.

    Fricken amazing! Took him a little while to get started this season, especially with the injury, but 8 points in this game and 3 in the next! I think he's got it. Love them Oilers!

    thats what i love about the oilers, most people can say they suck but they always have the best highlights! this whole game, his shootout goals and eberles first goal last season! proud to be an oilers fan!!

    In the 11/12 season EDM played CHI 4 times and scored a total of 24 goals, one game being
    9-2 and another being 8-4. EDM knows the secret to kicking CHI ASS

    If only Gagner could have played like this at the beggining of the year, the oilers would have been close to the play offs. Great Job Gagner. Keep it up.

    Some Oil "fans" saying how sad it is that Sam's name will forever be in some form associated with Gretz and Coffey ..
    Please get some glass, Sam bleeds for this team, he wants to be here, drops his gloves to motivate his team-mates and when it comes time to talk contracts unlike some other "heart n soul " players, doesn't dick around n play hardball.
    He's never had less then 40 points in 82 games , so he's at least on the board every 2nd night.
    I for one, always have time for Sam Gagner

    I remember seing Edmonton go down 2-0 and I was like 'Oh screw this' and went to bed and in the morning I watched TSN's That's Hockey 2nite and watched the highlights of the game and said 'Oh yes!'

    its sad to think he could hold out, get arbitrated a decent 1 year then be the youngest NHL u.f.a. of all time.

    He's had big nights, is young and plays a decent 2 way game.
    I really hope Oilers lock him in. He's all heart.

    My wife and I went to this game, my boss at the time had season tickets and gave us tickets for this game because he could not go for some reason, he also gave us a Boston Pizza gift card so that we could go out for supper after the game. I still have the ticket stubs for this game…what an awesome night!
