Someone tell me how to feel about this

  2. I mean I don’t know why this upset him but at the same time is he even wrong lmao

  3. dudelookslikeabrady

They gave someone the moment of their lives in a blowout win. Who the fuck cares?

Wideman should probably focus on getting another contract next season and not this petty bullshit.

  4. I learrned yesterday (via a players survey on The Athletic) that wideman is a big big talker. Never shuts up. Maybe he missed a opportunity shut up once again. I think the Leafs will win this series ultimately.

  5. djohnston02

Yeah this is an awful take. Back to the KHL for Wideman.

  6. ItsGaryMFOak

The only thing that gets me is that no one has the question asked quoted. This is the only person that’s reported on it. I doubt he said it specifically about Jett coming in, but if he did, what a pissy loser

  7. Comfortable-Bowl9591

Everyone gets what they deserve. 😀

  8. macula_transfer

Can’t wait to see that Wideman quote 200 times when the Leafs get to the 2nd round at last this year.

  9. ukrainianhab

Such a bad take. Wideman prob is on UofT quality so

  10. Few_Foot1960

This was a terrible take on this, I thiught it was great they let him play and was kind of mad they only gave him a minute, they were winning by so much should have let him play the last half of the third.
That being said I wonder if/what the question asked was. I’m sure the players were embarrassed being blown out 7-1 as they should be but that quote seems an odd thing to just blurt out.

  11. KingMonaco

Shut up Wideman. Who cares if they let a kid experience 1minute of nhl hockey? Even if it was 10 minutes. You guys got blown out, next time try to not get beat up by the opposing team and that won’t happen.

Even MSL when asked said that he doesn’t care about that.

  12. BlazeOfGlory72

Dude is such a grumpalumpagus. They did something nice by letting a kid live out his dream. Fucking chill.

  13. Farnzy11

Lol yeah I knew this was going to become a thing.

You either agree with the “hockey code” or don’t. Personally I think most of its stupid and archaic. But I can guarantee you Wideman wasn’t the only one pissed off about it.

You don’t put on your top PP line when you’re up 7. You don’t celebrate goals when your up 7. All that ‘code’ shit.

Imagine you are getting embarrassed so bad that the other team is like “throw on the university goalie” To us, it cool that he gets to see his dream come true. To the opposing team its embarrassing.
I think its cool that kid got to play in the NHL.

He shouldn’t have said anything. But he wasn’t the only one thinking it in that locker room.

Final verdict: don’t get your back blown out and allow 43 goals and you don’t have to worry about this.

  14. coincidencecontrol

leafs fans are absolutely losing it over this comment lol.

  15. HannuBTWR

He’s not wrong, but spouting this after getting embarassed isn’t the time lmao

  16. paladinx17

There is no way Wideman said that in regards to them bringing in the kid. Without context and a clip to hear, it’s impossible to validate. I’m thinking worst case scenario he misheard the question or misunderstood. The tweet is probably bs clickbait

  17. big_sports_guy

Wideman should focus on staying in the league lol. I’m ready for this guy to go.

  18. HanSwanson

Was the reporter in the back of an Uber? Wideman should be happy they used what is basically their ebug. It was his best chance to actually score this season. Garbage take. Back to the KHL.

  19. lucrativebiscuit

That’s kind of mean of Wideman if there’s no controversy around Alexander. He’s just a player who they’re giving a shot to live his childhood dream

  20. RoboticAnatomy

    Chris. bb. Please.

You have been the worst defenseman, on a team that has installed a revolving door in the lockerroom. We’ve had five, count ’em, *FIVE* rookie d-men come in, all of whom passed you on the depth chart after their first game.

I’d rather have Hoffman as a defenseman over you, at least he tries *sometimes*, at least he cares *sometimes*, at least he doesn’t *openly* complain about his teammates, coaching staff, and other teams lineup decisions *sometimes*, but he’d still be a better defenseman than you *all the time*.

This is oversaid, but I’d literally take a sandbag instead of you Widez, because at least a sandbag might **block a shot**. Hell, a sandbag might actually annoy the other team on the ice *more than you*, because if their shots hit the sandbag, sand will go flying everywhere and it would be annoying to skate through. At least the sandbag has *grit*, **ON the ice**, when it actually **MATTERS**. Not after a game, in which you did *nothing* to help your goaltender, but instead decide to bitch about some kid getting to live his childhood dream.

You aren’t good enough to have this much of a wrinkle in your panties about a team putting in a University goalie for the last 70 seconds of a 7-1 game. Embarrassing yourself, your teammates, and the fanbase of the team you play for (notice how i didn’t say “your fans”?, because you don’t have any fans, Chris :o). Get fucked Wideman. I hope we never see you in the CH again :D.

The sad part is, we probably will see you back on the ice. Not because you deserve it. But because everyone that has already passed you on the NHL depth chart, is injured. And everyone who *would* pass you on the Laval depth chart, is needed there for their playoff push. You aren’t worth benching, because that would fuck up our AHL playoff odds. So you are playing in the NHL because you *aren’t good enough to send down*. Let that sink in. So please, stay healthy for 2 more games, so we don’t have to deplete our lineup any more. Stay healthy so you can ride shotgun on our M1 Abrams MBT, and hopefully, be the first person removed from the team this offseason. Please don’t come back. Don’t let the *revolving* door hit you on the way out. I don’t want ass prints on my door.

  21. realm_fury

Good for Wideman and Fuck the Leafs!!!

  22. FtheBruinsLeafsSens

Maybe instead of focusing on the other team, Wideman should be embarassed his team got blown out and currently is the 5th worst team in the league. Maybe Wideman should be embarassed his team wasn’t able to score multiple goals agaisnt an emergency backup.

  23. paul_33

lol buddy the season was over months ago. None of these games really matter. Maybe relax?

  24. whogivesashirtdotca

Wideman’s just jealous the fill-in university kid got more ice time than he has all season.

  25. HotHits630

I mean, he’s not wrong, as is tradition.

  26. brennic

Where and when did he say this? Is there a video or recording? What was the full response? This is lacking context but looks pretty bad regardless

  27. fatbaIlerina

I understand why he is mad. As a team they were embarrassed even without the goalie change and the goalie change just highlighted the embarrassment. But making your gripe public was a mistake I think, mainly because we are long out of the playoffs and nothing matters for either team at this point. Again, though, I understand the competitive gripe with the goalie change. Just keep it internal and work to make sure it never happens again or quietly plot your revenge.

  28. holdunpopularopinion

I’ll say, when I was younger, I was a backcatcher, and we were about to end a game early via mercy rule, and I asked if I could pitch. I was not a pitcher, and the other team should have taken offence that we were up so bad, we put someone who isn’t a pitcher in, to finish them off.

It was in part a move to piss off the other team, since we didn’t like them. I don’t know how this is any different.

That said, it’s cool that someone got that chance against us, their biggest historical rival. And I thought it was cool I got to pitch one inning.

  29. holdunpopularopinion

I don’t get the hate coming out all of a sudden.

Stupid comment, but he’s been an amazing teammate and a professional, in what has been a challenging year. He’s a 7th D, and fine for that role.

  30. JustFred24

I hate that the leafs will winn because of this
