What a day – another successful Winged Wheel Podcast Day at the LCA (in Partnership with the Detroit Red Wings) in the books! We mustered the energy to still bring you a weekend episode, albeit remote and a bit shorter than usual (we’ll be back to regular programming midweek).
Tune in as we discuss Detroit’s two games, including a dramatic 7-6 shootout loss to Buffalo that had Larkin and Walman in the middle of a pseudo-line brawl vs. Skinner & Mittelstadt, Perron’s tying goal, Berggren, Chiasson, Seider, Edvinsson, & others producing, & lots more. Also, the Red Wings disappointing loss to Crosby, Malkin, & the Penguins, where a Suter goal from Copp & Raymond was the only high point (6:20).
Next, a look at where Detroit is in the Connor Bedard Draft Lottery standings, the playoff picture across the NHL, & projections as the season wraps up (17:30).
We also discuss Carter Mazur’s strong debut with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL & Amadeus Lombardi helping Flint in the playoffs (23:05) before covering news from across the NHL & world of hockey: Kitchener Rangers upsetting Shane Wright & the Windsor Spitfires, Qunnipiac defeating Michigan & Minnesota for the NCAA Frozen Four title, McDavid hitting 150 points, Pastrnak hitting 60 goals, Crosby reaching 1500 points, Boston beating an old Detroit wins record, & lots more (25:55).
Finally, we recap Winged Wheel Podcast Day at the LCA ft. Ken Daniels & make a special announcement (35:40) before we take your questions during Overtime (42:15) – enjoy!

I know I'm dreaming unreasonable dreams, but wouldn't it be great for Detroit to win the first lottery and NYI to win the second but fall off miserably next season?
Quinnipiac winning after Petruzelli left. 🙂
Had a blast a wwp day at lca. Thanks again for a wonderful event guys! Can't wait for the next one
Gimme dem draft pprofiles
Was so tempted to make the live show this time but it takes a little more planning to make it there from Nebraska. Glad you guys had a good time even with the outcome of the game. Hopefully will make one next season.
54:30 Brad you are underrating the Swiss NL. That league is full of former NHL, AHL, KHL players. You have to factor in the competition he plays against. Auston Matthews 1.28 PPG, Reinbacher (D-man) 0.48 PPG. And the league has gotten much better since Matthews played there.
Tired of hearing stupid mcdavid guy sucks and doesn’t win cups
The only thing worse than the Pittsburgh score was having to listen to Leah Hextall 🤮
Thanks for mentioning Larkin at 10:00 where he stops playing hockey, turns around and interferes by running into our defence who was defending the goal scorer on the play. We not only get scored on, but go on a 4 minute penalty where they get another goal. To top that off, another goal was scored on us shortly after the penalty expired. So Larkin was directly responsible for 2 goals and contributed to a 3rd as well. Good work captain, way to show us how to play in the NHL.
Do you guys think Larkin was thinking "Eh, it's game 79 and we're basically eliminated from the playoffs, so this is okay"?
It was a reaction that he didn't control. That can't be how you might respond, you have to stay in control. Go after him after the whistle. And why should every other Wing just jump a guy who didn't do anything? That's what Walman did. He nearly assaulted a random dude and got a double minor for it. Maybe that's stupid, but toughness for the sake of toughness isn't enough.
