First time I ever got to see the films of this 1962 fight of Zora Folley and Doug Jones. Being a hard core fight fan of the 1950's and 60's fighters, I found this tot-to-toe slugging match one of best ever. Jones unexpected knockout of Zora took everyone by surprise! Both of these men, especially Zora, would have dominated the current crop of heavies with their masterful boxing skills alone. Thanks so much for posting this great video of two great heavyweight-never-champs of the 1960's. This was what 1960's boxing was all about!
I watched this fight live on television..a 15 year old boxing zealot, with my Grandfather, who introduced me to the Sweet Science. It was Jones’ ability to come back the way he did and KO Zora that lead me to believe he’d be too much for the young Cassius Clay (his name at the time..no disrespect). The broadcast didn’t have instant replay. For many years I thought Zora just ran out of gas. Watching now, he obviously got nailed and nailed good. This was a great fight between two great fighters. Also, isn’t it sweet that the commentator was Don Dunphy? He just let the fight happen. Can you imagine a fight this action packed with today’s announcers and their diarrhea if the mouth? Thanks for this upload. It’s great.
