[Jim Thomas] As many of you know, I’m calling it a career shortly after this hockey season. Forty-eight years – all at the Post-Dispatch – have gone by quick. It has rarely felt like work. Extremely thankful for all the great people I’ve met along the way.

Congrats to JT for his long and successful career. He’s adapted from the NFL to the NHL once the rams left. Many years of beat writing deserves a nice retirement.

Thanks man. Of all the reporters of all time, you were one of em.

  3. Hellava long career. He was definitely one of the reporters in the history of sports journalism. I’ve been pretty hard on the guy since the Rams days, but staying at one spot for that long is quite an accomplishment.

You have to love something to do it for 48 years. Congrats JT.

  5. Congrats to him. He did his best to cover the beat he was assigned. I’m excited to see if the P-D will bring in another guy for the Blues coverage or if it all falls on DeFrakes.

Thomas was good with the Rams but he never seemed quite right after making the plunge into the hockey world.

  7. That’s a hell of an accomplishment in the news industry. My wife was an editor at a couple papers for 8 years and went through something like 12 rounds of layoffs. Surviving cuts for 48 years is crazy.

Always got the sense that Jim’s passion was football. He seemed really bummed when the Rams left and I don’t know that the Blues ever got the same amount of love. But he was a good source for information. Just not as many deep dives and investigative stories
