The New York Islanders traded three pieces to get Bo Horvat. In the deal Aatu Räty to the Canucks. Was that a good idea for the Isles? Should they have traded him away?
I think Horvat will fit the Isles play style very well. And if not and we lose, we can still potentially trade him before the deadline to get something back
I'm curious how their lineup is going to look with 5 quality centers. I wonder who gets moved to the wing. Guess we'll find out soon. Also, I don't think there's any way that LL does this deal if there's a possibility of them not being able to sign Bo.
From the Canucks perspective, for Bo I wish the pick wasn't top 13 protected (top 10 would have been fine) and it would have been nice to get a defensive prospect instead of 2 young forwards. I've watched the Canucks since 1990 and Bo for his entire career obviously, and he's legit. Even if he drops off and "only" gets you 25-30 goals and 60-70 points, you've still got yourself an amazing player who can win face-offs like crazy, works hard every shift at both ends, has really improved his skating to the point that it's a strength, and he's a good leader. If NYI brought him in to be a playoff team, they could see returns as soon as this season. He's that good. I don't think you're getting another Trevor Linden (as much as I loved him when he was in Vancouver), who kind of fell off after leaving the west coast. Again, if you're expecting a 40-50 goal pace every year, you may be disappointed, but if you're expecting an all around hardworking player who can score like I stated above, win face-offs and provide leadership and 2 way ability, I don't think you could have done better. He's a beast in the playoffs too, as the bubble proved. If you guys get there, I don't think you'll have any complaints. There's no quit in his game. I like your team. Bo will really help.
Canucks fan perspective. I like this trade for us. Raty is potentially a huge piece for us. But we also get a 2023 pick which for me I hope is 13th XD But for Bo i hope is 32nd.
IM A Canuck Fan. I thinkthis trade may work for both Teams as Isles are in that Window. BO will be even better without the Pressures and Circus in Vancouver. We r in Re build mode so RATY and the 1st rounder helps us in this Regard. Beau will be a potential Fit on 2nd or 3rd. Im just Wondering if LOU will Trade BO again before the Deadline as theres no Contract yet. Youll love BO Class act Playoff Beast.
Although they question if Bo will re-sign with us, VAN had a player who would not. I get the vibes that instead of having all of the pressure as VAN Captain, Lee has the team in his shoulders. At only two years older than Barzal, Bo fits our younger seaoned forwards..I think he's going to like it here.
I like the player. I don't like the trade. He's a nice player but imo Lou gave up to much. The goals Raty scored were goal scorer type goals. He showed he can be part of the solution. So Lou trades him for a guy closer to 30 having a career year. Who still has to be resigned. Lou has yet to win a trade as GM of this team. If your giving up your top prospect AND a 2023 first rounder, I would expect someone more in line of aTimo Meier. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Garth won more trades than Lou has running this team.
Islanders are going to be an awful team in 5 years, and a mediocre team in the next 4 years, an absolutely stupid decision as the Islanders have to re-build as they have almost no decent prospects, they have one of the oldest teams in the league, and there is no way they are able to beat the "elite" teams in the league in the playoffs
as a canuck fan i ill be watching bo carefully to see how he will play with the east coast travel. he's a great faceoff and team leader. this is great trade for us and him. very classy guy.
Canuck fan here. NYI got Horvat not because of Raty, it was the 1st rd in a very strong draft year. BOS, DAL, NJD all offered their 1st but they were going to be a late 1st. NYI is top 12 protected so if it’s in the teens, that’s huge difference. And if it defers to 2024, that could be a lottery pick.
Canucks fan, Bo is amazing and has a career year, at the same time he did not cost 8 plus mln for 7 years, we did a mistake to resign Miller, I am glad we moved Bo for a nice package.
I hope Islanders fans appreciate the person they’re getting in Bo Horvat as much as the player. I’ve been a Canucks fan since 1988 and Bo managed to captain this god-awful team through one of the most tumultuous stages I’ve ever witnessed and he did it with class and dignity. He’s a big body with an even bigger heart and we’re REALLY going to miss him in Vancouver. I hope he’s successful and that you guys are able to re-sign him because he deserves to be appreciated and to have a stable home base for himself and his family.
The longer I look at where the Islanders are the more I think LL needed to do something. So the deal begins to look like both teams reacting to pressure and hoping they’ve done the right thing. As a Van fan, I figure the Canucks get two chances at a replacement for Horvat – Raty and the draft choice. Both will take time, if they actually pan out.
From a nucks fan… go isles! ive been disenfranchised with my team the past couple years. I was there in person to see Horvats first career goal, and have probably watched every single game of his career. Love him. I want him to win a cup and the trade marked the end of my fandom being exclusive to one team. 🍻
Two things made me laugh at this video – 1) the Isles are in "win now" mode, despite the fact they haven't been in a playoff position at any time this season and are chasing down teams that have more likelihood to make the playoffs and 2) that Raty coyuld be a 60 point player but Horvat is "at minumum a 60 point player" Uhhh, no he isn't. He's topped 60 points ONCE in his career. He will likely pass that this season,, but many would argue that this season his shooting percentage is not sustainable in the long term.
As a Canucks fan, you got a gem in Horvat. He's on fire goals wise this year but he's an elite faceoff guy who is a great leader. If you don't re-sign Bo, this is a horrible trade for the Isles. But are you willing to give him $8M for 8 years? And now you are loaded at C. Are you going to put Bo and Barzal on the top line with Barzal on the wing?

they need to resign Bo now
I like Bo, what worries me is past trades :Chara-Luongo-Bertuzzi(also traded to Van) were very productive later on.

Are you not curious as to why Lou made a trade in January that he could have made last September…I would very much like to know the reason!
Let’s go Horvat, but why Raty? I’m so sad I love Aatu and he is the type of player that you build around not trade

Bos having a great year, hes not worth 8/9 mill
Canucks made the right move

I’m part islanders fan now because of Horvat. Barzal is also from my city

Horvat is a rental while Raty would had spent years with the Islanders if they kept him and not traded him. Islanders lost

Ya'll in NY better take care of our boy Bo! You got a hell of a hockey player and person!
