My View of the Bruins Historic Regular Season

Okay, now that they set a record, I want to look at the Bruins seasons where they have won their division, finished first overall and where other historic seasons have ended.

  1. Boston is out no later than Round 2 was my prediction back about 7-8 weeks ago. I still see a Tampa/Colorado rematch lurking to be honest. I made that prediction back in preseason. Whomever makes the SC Finals, best of luck to them! It’s been a fun hockey season, the playoffs are going to be more fun

  2. It’s been impressive to watch to say the least. I’ll be very interested to see how they do in the playoffs.

  3. WOW, the Boston Bruins really MADE IT! They broke the record and at 133 pts they are now the new holders. NEVER thought that record would be broken to be honest.
We will see tho if they can go all the way…

  4. As a bruins native, it's oddly relieving to see someone putting the weight of the playoffs into perspective. Literally every facebook and reddit thread is talking talking about how the bruins are going to crush it. Playoff hockey is not regular season hockey.

  5. For a historic record breaking season, the first part of this video was pretty depressing lol

  6. Dont be busting my bubble. I will just be sitting over here with my Rose colored glasses.

  7. You said Stanley Cup winners usually don’t have a lot of postseason awards. This team won’t either. Outside of Ullmark with the Vézina, they’re not expected to win any. McDavid will get the Hart, Rocket Richard and Art Ross, Karlsson the Norris.

  8. Bruins would have to win like 85 Games which isn't really likely as injuries or misfortune happens. Swayman was the better Goalie in Post Season last year. I don't believe Ullman will win 16 games if he gets Cup. Rangers only Eastern TEam to ever Win President Trophy and Cup. That was the first year of the EAst/West splits things. So I think Western Teams did it like 7 times so its tough to lose count. Least was so weak they have to move Detroit there with their 4 Cups. I think they had 25 year Playoff Run finally conclude. I would not get too excited as they more likely to lose in first or second round. Also the format don't have 1st thru 8 playing based on record. So I can't see them getting out of Atlantic or making ECF really even :).

  9. Honestly as a Boston fan I just have a feeling something will go wrong this play off run the “we want the cup chant” has cursed up but if Ulmark or sway can play the they have in the regular season it’s gonna be hard to beat us cause we steal games all the times cause of those 2

  10. I think they pull it off and win the cup. There's an x factor with them this year. It's just different.

  11. Montreal vs Boston was hard back in 20's-80's Lol. But now they're just a has been franchise that sits there best player to tank. If Montreal was in the playoffs in the 8th seed, Boston would sweep them.

  12. Leafs fan so I loathe the Bruins but what they've done this season is absolutely amazing. While I think the Leafs actually have a decent shot of getting past the Bolts, they're going to hit the brick wall that's Boston in the 2nd round and that's the end of the line there.

Looking forward to a killer final between Boston vs Avs or Oilers. Won't feel right rooting for Boston but part of me thinks it'll be wrong if they don't win it all.

  13. Considering that before the start of the season, a lot of people thought the Bruins were in trouble with the "injury problems" they had. That proved not to be true.
But you are absolutely correct. A seven game series is a different beast.
I'm thinking Tampa goes down in 6 to Toronto, so I'll jump on the B's bandwagon.

  14. This team just feels different. It feels like the Cup feeling is in the air so I'm saying Monty raises the Cup for the first time as a Bruins HC. WE WANT THE CUP, WE WANT THE CUP, WE WANT THE CUP, and deserve it!

  15. I don’t see any team beating the Bruins 3 times let alone 4. Good luck in a long series as the AB’s break you in double ot game after game

  16. The only question mark i see for Boston is Ullmark. Unproven in the playoffs yet.
he's set to have a Conn Smythe run this year so let's see how far can he go.

  17. If the Bruins continue rotating Swayman and Ullmark in the playoffs (which they should), that should make it less likely a team would figure either of them out within the series.

  18. Home ice is so important in the playoffs. It’s going to be really difficult for team to head to Boston and win. I believe they go all the way. They’re a machine.

  19. Thinking of that Canadian team… with Dryden? AMAZING team. I forgot completely that Doug Jarvis was on the team. The Flower, Lapointe, Cornouryer, Tremblay, Sevard? Come on, as a B's fan since birth, even I can recognize, that Canadian team was lights out.

  20. Hard to compare apples to apples unfortunately, 76-77 Habs got 60 wins, 132pts in only 80 games and all in regulation, no benefit of OT and S/O. How do you draw the line to compare them?
Bur congrats on a record season to the Bruins for sure. Playoffs are gonna be a show for sure!

  21. I could see them getting bounced by Toronto or TB in the second round. if they make it through that, I don't see them losing to whoever comes out of the Met. after that, who knows?

  22. Winning the Presidents Trophy doesn't mean a thing come playoff time. The regular season is the regular season, the playoffs are a totally different beast. Great breakdown, Shannon.

  23. They didn't beat 60 victories in regular time, and only 8 defeats in regular time. They have 2 more games, 132 pts was made in 80 games. It's a great record for this era, but we can't really compared, too many factors are different. They have to win the cup, or it becomes just a fluke in the matrix. Believe me, I'm very impressed by what Boston did this year. It is definitively a big accomplishment with a team that was perceived as maybe struggling during the off season with all the wounds on key players who were supposed to miss a lot more time to recover. But we shouldn't compare apples and oranges.

  24. Congrats to the Bruins and their fans. Impressive achievement. On a side note that 76-77 Habs team was STACKED. Only 8 losses all regular season is insane. Lafleur was leading that team with like a 2 packs of smokes a day habit which makes it all the more impressive lol.

  25. I have never been a Bruins fan but hafta to give them credit for such an amazing season. Be a shame if they lost in the first round. My bad. 😮

  26. How long can the Bruins keep this team together? Maybe 3 more years until the Buffalo's of the world swap out?

  27. Re Ullmark, someone I think of in that regard is Fleury. A monster for three rounds until Washington figured out the cross crease pass on him. After that, it got ugly.

  28. Historical matchups don't matter at all. Your entire argument can be equated to thinking that historical outcomes affects the probability of outcomes going forward. Stop being a Debbie downer.

  29. What was that about us Bruins having to potentially face the Penguins Shannon??? No more Sid the Kid for us this year 😊

  30. Boston is going all the way. The team has never really faltered all season. They look like they're enjoying themselves and they're obviously a tight-knit group this season. The real question is whether there is any team in the league that can hold off the offensive weapons long enough to win a series. They can roll four lines that can hurt you.

  31. in march of 2019…i predicted that columbus would sweep the lighting in the first round…(no joke, it was on a message board)…and this year in march i predicted the Sabres would sweep the Bruins in the first round….and…that aint happening haha so i think the Bruins are at least safe in the first round 😉

  32. I mean. Enjoy it while it last. Soon the Bruins will understand what the salary cap and aging means.
