The stats may not jump off the page, but Jesperi Kotkaniemi finished the season with 18 goals and 43 points, despite playing a chunk of the season on the 4th line. Compared to Trocheck from last year, that’s just 3 less goals and 8 less points, with worse deployment

And that’s while being better defensively and taking less stupid penalties.

Also nearly 750k less on the salary cap

KK and Chattie are my two picks for most improved this season.

Necas was great too, but I expected it from him whereas it wasn’t always clear from these two.

So happy we have em both!!!

KK is a very good two way forward who has a very bright future

    Les Habitants bouillonnent.

Couldn’t be happier with him. Well, if he turned into Connor McDavid overnight I guess I could be, but you get the point. They took a bit of a risk, he may never be a “3rd overall elite goal sniper automatic hall of fame” player, but I think we’ve got a really good 2C for our style of hockey on a deal that will prove to be a very good one for the team, allowing us to continue putting other quality players on the ice.

I think the Finnish connection is strong and has been a great culture for guys like him to come in and get right. Hoping to see it similarly start to click in the playoffs with JP, along with the continued development of our other Finns like Seth Jarvis.

Those are career numbers for KK. And in fact, those numbers are better than his last 2 years in Montreal combined. KK is already delivery value above his contract, and should only get better as time goes by.

Who know, maybe he’ll develop into someone able to take Jordo’s place when he retires.

    r/hockey in shambles

To me it’s not about the stats though. He looks confident and hungry and seems like a player that sets the tone for other guys when he’s on the ice. A lot like Staal. That’s what I’m seeing that makes me excited about him as a future cornerstone of this roster.

The rest is all subjective. I mean, you can look at Staal’s stats and they don’t tell you a whole lot of anything about his value to the team. I think it’s the same with KK (and a couple other players, Teuvo comes to mind atm)
