I don’t hate Lavi nearly as much as people on here, and his game plan against Florida in the playoffs last year was masterful, but we need someone who’s going to be more willing to play the young guys.

When nearly every young guy we let go/traded blossomed with*gasp* MORE ICE TIME the writing was on the wall. Vrana may be the exception but he couldn’t develop Mantha.

Scott Allen
Alain Vignault

Laviolette wasn’t the only problem in Washington but him staying wasn’t the solution either.
I’ve been full throttle on the tank for a while so losing only made me happier, but any other time, any other coach would have been fired just for Washington’s performance since the deadline. Any coach who goes through that kind of stretch is getting fired. If he had years left on his deal he probably wouldn’t have made it to the end of the season.
Now the question is “does Mac have a specific target in mind for the job or is he going to search for one?”
Brunette, Halpern, Bruce, Carberry…all would be fine choices. Just don’t bring in Daryl Sutter.
Since Laviolette is gone if we fire Foresythe it’ll be like metaphorically winning the Stanley Cup! I’m just nervous about who we hire.

Outsiderâs perspective: Backstrom and Carlson played like 70 games combined. Kuznetsov is not living up to the contract. Players were pulled out from under Lavs at the deadline. Seems kind of harsh.
What am I missing? Is it just zero tolerance for missing the playoffs?
I’ve got mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, Lavo is the coach with the best pedigree the Caps have ever had. There really isn’t anyone available or otherwise that would have done better this season, and likely next year vs the two previous years of Lavo.
On the other hand, towards the end of playing out the string, it was obvious Lavo wanted to leave and the Caps played like it.
I really hope GMBM has some money up his sleeve, because the Caps are starting to get a reputation regarding coaches.
Thatâs when the boss walks in with a box for your stuff but youâve already brought one in.
