[Drance] Patrik Allvin’s preference is not to use buyouts this summer. “I don’t want to use buyouts if we don’t have to, I don’t want to use buyouts if it’s going to effect us down the line when we could be a contending team. My intention is not to use buyouts.”

That was honestly the reaction I was expecting. There’s a lot of debate on whether or not OEL should be bought out, and I’m glad Allvin cleared that up.

This is likely directed at OEL, but I don’t think anyone was seriously thinking of buying him out as we won’t be competitive for another year or two. OEL’s penalty is too much to digest at this time.

If we bought OEL out this summer, people would be pretty upset at that trade affecting our cap for even longer. Especially if they think OEL can rebound a little and be better than healthy-scratch levels, it’s a bad move to buy him out now.

Best thing he’s said since taking over.
Please, just let the benning era run it’s course and be gone.

I then read this as trading an asset with value for minimal return. Unless there is some hidden 2009 era market for Myers.

We again are trading from a position of weakness, ie over the cap.

    Key word being preference.

The 3 names we keep hearing about related to buyouts are: OEL, Garland, Boeser right?

While I’ve made comments and even a post about OEL being a likely buyout candidate I really hope it doesn’t happen and Allvin sticks to his word.

…we’re gonna trade our first to get rid of OEL aren’t we?

  8. helixflush

Well, Tyler Myers is going to effect us down the line to be a contender so…

  9. Iron_Seguin

OEL’s buyout. The buyout designed specifically for OEL. The buyout we were going to use on OEL. Yeah not doing that.

Wave goodbye to a handful of our upcoming 1st round picks then!

32 Thoughts went as far as to say the owner is blocking the buyouts. So let’s forget about the possibility.

To me this says it’s going to happen, they just don’t want to admit it yet

  13. OEL and Myers on the third pair. I mean, it’s not the worst thing that could happen if they get a good camp this offseason.

  14. ImAnAfricanCanuck

He’s talking about OEL and Myers here.

That OEL buyout is fucked, and Myers can be traded in September for an actual return.

  15. SMA2343

It’s for sure for OEL and Myers.

Myers has one more year. Tbh, not worth buying him out. Trade him and retain salary. It’s only for a year that’s worth it in my opinion.

For OEL. 5 years. Like we need to trade him at the deadline for a team who needs a veteran defenceman

You can’t buyout OEL and Myers only has one more year. I do think if you can find a taker for OEL, you do it, even if it costs a decent asset or two. It’s hard to imagine having that contract for four more years as he will only get worse. Tough situation but this isn’t the time for a buyout. If you have to go that route, wait at least two more years.

  17. I already got it after the second “don’t want to use buyouts”… 🙄

  18. t_funnymoney

-Trades expiring contracts for useful pieces at the deadline.
-Aquires impactful free agents like Kuzmenco. -Doesn’t panic and use unnecessary buyouts.
-Gives guys like Di Gusseppe and Dries opportunities instead of trying to plug holes with 3 million dollar free agents for the same production

…… I’m not used to this level of competence at all.

that is cute that Alvin thinks the canucks are a contender
