Tampa Bay is such an annoying team to play, and Wes McCauley is a ref who needs to hang up his stripes.
It was kind of Auston to say the refs were fair, but knowing the history between McCauley and Sheldon, us fans feel very strongly that he shouldn’t be working the Leaf games.

"hard to say what went wrong"??? Buddy it's easy to tell what went wrong. Starting Holl to start the game. Not having your team ready to play hard at puck drop. Trying to blame Samsonov for the utter lack of give a shit this team played with in the first period is laughable. He thinks Matthews and Marner were good? Hardly noticed either were even on the ice most of the night. Same story for them year after year in the post season.
This team should have been so ready to play at puck drop its not even funny. They should have been so eager to get revenge from last season and instead.. They show up as if it's a preseason game.

STILL, There is NO EXCUSE for the way we responded or the way we started. We've won in spite of incompetent/bias officiating before, so on a night as important as this, we completely CHOKED DESPITE the refs. We were COMPLETELY OUTCLASSED at home in game 1 with our 6 year past. I HOOE im wrong, but, I think this series is OVER!!! Mathews is soft. OTHER so called super stars and in his case so called GENERATIONAL player take their teams on their shoulders, pick them up when it matters most. it was insane at the arena when we got that 2nd goal, that kampf penalty was the deciding factor cause it all fell apart from that. it was so hyped, crazy!!!!! until that penalty.
it was 3-2 for a minute before that kampf penalty and sammy made this huge save and the place was roaring his name like it was erupting cause he kept us in 3-2, but that kampf penalty i was bitching about all game it cost us, brutal game

Samsonov needs to be better. Can’t have below an .800 especially in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s a game of inches, and games are going to be tight. We need to keep the goals against to a minimum, especially knowing how great the opposition goaltending is.

😶🌫The NHL should be embarrassed. The extreme and blatant officiating bias against Toronto absolutely ruined not only the game, but the entire series. Any time Toronto got momentum, the refs made sure to crush it immediately with bogus penalties (or at least if you're going to call it a penalty, call it against the other team as well, especially when identical penalties happen within mere seconds of each other but only the Toronto one is called ("slashing", anyone?). The stuff that Tampa got away with was just mindblowing.
☢We knew the refs would be biased against Bunting, that's been obvious for months, but all of a sudden the playoffs start and they expand that bias to the entire Leafs team. Absolutely disgusting. I've never seen anything so blatantly obvious since the Salt Lake Winter Olympics Women's Gold Medal Hockey Game between Canada and the USA.
☢I doubt I'll even be watching the rest of the series, something I've been looking forward to since last year's playoffs, because much like "pro" wrestling, it seems pretty obvious that the league has already decided who will win this series. And the NHL is really starting to look very much like the WWF. At least be honest with your paying customers and call it what it is… rigged.
