A bit of a sigh of relief when he said he’s “not convinced” Sutter is bullet proof, but he’s right that this team is in the biggest mess it’s ever seen in its existence.

Someone high up the organizational chain has to address the 20 elephants in the room at some point.

    Flames gonna Flames.

His managerial skills sort of forced the Flames into a rebuild last time, so I guess we can look forward to that again.

Tre had to go. How do you sign an 8.4 million dollar deal with a guy that you can’t get along with? Sutter will run out his 2 years I’m sure.
I’m also not convinced this team needs a rebuild. They were in most of the games they lost. If they had one a quarter of the games that got them to O.T. They’d be in it right now.
This rebuild talk seems pretty dramatic in my opinion.

Flames have won 1 playoff series without Sutter since 89….his last stint as GM we made the playoffs 5 years in a row.

Not sure why everyone’s so quick to blame him for the team Tre built

The Flames are the Coyotes of Canada.

    Cheap ownership? Check.

    No recent playoff success? Check.

    Need a new arena? Check.

Controversy surrounding a coach or GM? Check.

    Overall organizational mess? Check.

Daryl swinging his 2 cups and Berta boy mentality around, collateral damage be damned. Flamesnation quoted that him and brad didn’t get along near the end. Fucking hell. Let him cook I guess. What have we got to lose, more games? At least we can pick better prospects down the line.

  7. I am still in reflection mode about the past season, but I don’t think it is a mystery why they promoted a close Tre associate to President of Hockey Operations. They wanted to keep Tre, they liked Tre, but he left on his own accord, so they made Don Maloney President to keep some of what they liked about Tre around.

With respect to the Sutter v. Tre situation. I mean, Sutter salvaged the team from the Ward years, won the Jack Adams last summer and was quick to make a committment to the Flames in October by signing a new contract. Last summer, Tre let Gaudreau get away with nothing in return. If I am ownership, my manager just lost me one of the best player assets in the NHL and got nothing back. The Tkachuk trade didn’t work out as well as we had hoped, and Tre didn’t make an immediate commitment to the team like Sutter did.

If it comes down to Tre or Sutter, I can see why ownership might stick with Sutter.

As I mentioned, I am still reflecting on this past season. Like most fans, I was extremely disappointed but, when I reflect on that disappointment, I wonder how much was unrealistic expectations.

We were told, by pretty much every reporter, insider and pundit, weeks before this team even hit the ice, that they were one of the deepest and best teams in the league. Moneypuck had us with either the best or second-best chance to win The Cup.

    Based on what exactly?

We lost two of our best players and got three solid players back, but two of those had played their whole careers in Florida and this season can’t have been easy either professionally or personally. Kadri has bounced around a bit more recently but, except for a terrible play against Chicago, didn’t perform too badly, fifty-six points was his third highest total in a 13-year career.

We did a heart transplant on the team and the patient didn’t spring up off the operating table at 100%. Is that really a surprise?

Maybe I am playing devil’s advocate a bit with the above but those are my thoughts right now.

Look at John Bean in that press conference.

Then tell me you don’t know who is likely a big part of the problem.

I 100% understand why Treliving walked away.

  9. Yetimanchild

New players take time to adjust, especially stars used to getting their way.

At the exit interviews Toffoli says Sutter is the best coach he’s ever had, Andersson saying the media is fishing for a story, Kadri saying he needs to reflect and figure shit out, Backlund saying the ultimate dream is to win the cup in Calgary….

Team started to come around, .700 since the all star break, Weegs finally looking comfortable, Huby back to his wing and looking better, Markstrom finally playing.

One more year, then flip the script if we’re same old same old by the trade dead line, do the rebuild.

I hope the team reputation hits rock bottom with all of this drama continuing to come to light. Maybe someone with a say will wake up and will want to bring respectability back to the Flames because man things look dire right now. I blame no one who wants to leave at this point

  11. iggyisgoat

This team is a complete tire fire. You’ve got cheap owner committed to mediocrity who’s willing to let his GM quit, and ignore multiple player requests around the coach just to save a few bucks and let his buddy Darryl run the team into the ground.

  12. Craig-Viau

Could it be that our best 2 players Gaudreau and Tkachuk left because of Sutter and likely our next 2 best players won’t resign Lindholm and Tofolli. Is this really the road we want to go down. Imagine when Huberdeau, Kadri, Weeger and the rest find out we are looking at a 5 year rebuild they will want out too and you will get very little for them because H&K are getting overpaid for the performance which Sutter seems unable to bring out so we are going to get hammered 5-8 times for this. Hanifin and Anderson will also want out.
