Taking helmet off isn’t illegal in NHL only in juniors. Players in AHL and ECHL do it all the time. You can get an extra 2 minute penalty according to the NHL rule book but that’s all. Stupid Ducks announcers just making an excuse for Deslauriers smh. He is the one who wants to fight and instigates it because he wants to lead league with six, which is not really much but that’s all we get in the post 2013 euro-sissified league now, but he is afraid to take off his helmet cause it’s not illegal🤦🏼♂️ Considering Macdermid was the one who didn’t originally try to fight but still wants to take off helmet shows how much more he respects the code and doesnt care if he isn’t behind a piece of plastic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Deslauriers take off helmet. Luckily though the helmets came in this fight pretty quick and they both got shots in so it still was a good fight for 2019 nhl standards and this helmet really didn’t matter after all. Still though much better fights in minors that resemble old school rock em sock em and they take off helmets. NHL needs to get a new commissioner who respects pre lockouts hockey and end the Player Safety with that hypocrite Shanahan making rules that most the players don’t want. Things that would help would be to remove instigator penalty and helmet penalty, and make visors optional again. Probably never will happen but I still hope.
Perfect example of what I am always talking about the Kings getting the short end of the stick when it comes to penalties being called on the other teams. Watch Clifford get tripped up at the 0:09 mark while the zebra is looking directly at the play even and does the ref raise his hand for the penalty. Hell no, as usual! And don't try and tell me he didn't call it because of the fight about to begin at the other end of the ice either. Zebra is looking directly at the trip and nothing is called. League bias if ever there was any. Guarantee you if that was a Kings player that tripped another team's player though, that call is made.

GREAT fight! Big boys swinging heavy! The NHL needs more of this; not too much, but definitely more.
Btw, get those GD face shields off before somebody gets hurt!
Great tilt! Smiles from the boys after. Love it!
Too bad Montreal didn’t keep d lo
Why is everyone going crazy about this fight?
Mcdermid got rocked with one good hit, mcdermid swung uncrollably landing nothing.
One thumb down. Hi Gary !
The respect at the end in the box, man. +1
Хороший бой. Прям олдскулльный.
Should be one of these every game. NHL has gotten weak.
Just once, let one of the "over zealous" lineman get clocked. That will fix them trying to regulate every fight. Let the boys play, that's their job.
Kudos for the Refs not jumping in and giving them a chance to let it happen!
Ask me how many times I watched this or showed this…
macdermid is good at punching the air
STAY OUT OF THIS, REF!!!
