There needs to be a legitimate conversation in the front office about Barkov
At a minimum the captainship needs to be reconsidered. He’s such a skilled player but he hasn’t stepped up when it matters most. Not to mention guys probably struggle to hear/understand him
Funny, my mom lives in the northeast and is a Rangers fan. She’s been watching this series because of me and she hates Boston. She texted me today and asked, who’s number 16, he stinks. I had to explain that Barkov is a great regular season player, but disappears in the playoffs. Honestly, Tkachuk should be the captain.

I actually blame Paul Maurice more than anyone here. Other than Verhaeghe he hasn’t played on a decent line. I also think Boston is game planning to shut him down. But when you look at his zone starts, only 37% of them have been in the offensive zone vs 63% in the defensive zone. His playoff offensive zone starts have never been below 56%. Maurice is playing him with crap line mates and forcing him to take every defensive zone draw. It’s not a full excuse but Barkov is not Barkov in this system
We still need to get Barkov some 1st line wingers that he actually has chemistry with. Eetu is a good 2 way player but he shouldn’t be on the 1st line and Barkov has zero chemistry with Reinhart.
Boston has been doing a great job shutting him down. Everyone calling for Barkov’s head and the captaincy is extremely over reactive, players on the team have said very recently how important his leadership is to the team
