Wallstedt called up from Iowa 👀
The #mnwild has recalled goaltender Jesper Wallstedt from the @IAWild. He went 18-15-5 with a 2.68 GAA, a .908 SV%, one shutout and one goal scored in 38 games during his rookie season in @TheAHL.

Is this strange? Seems strange to me.
Probably just to get him in the room and around the team. Get him a feel for the pace and vibe of NHL playoff hockey and our staff/facilities. I wouldn’t read too much into this unless we get hints Gus is hurt.

He’s coming up to be our emergency backup. It was Hunter Jones while Iowa was still playing, but now that they are done, it makes sense to upgrade from our ECHL goalie to our top AHL goalie. It also gets him a chance to practice with the big club and go on the road getting a taste of the NHL life. If he ends up playing, things are definitely not looking good for our playoff chances, but overall this should be a positive for Wallstedt.

I’m sure every player in Iowa on a Minnesota contract is technically being “called up” now that Iowa’s season is done.
Yeah this is just an experience/team building thing I would take a catastrophe for him to play his first game in the NHL during the playoffs.
The NHL changed the rule so that teams could have a professional as their emergency goalie. We won’t see him unless Gus and Fluery both go down.
I love Gus Bus, but I have to say that facing Oettinger has me excited to have a franchise goalie of our own. Good to give him a taste of the room and the playoff experience
Just insurance. He’s not going to play unless absolutely necessary

Yes, as everyone has said, its an emergency precaution.
The future is extremely bright for us. The MN Wild, from my knowledge, haven’t had this before.
We have a HOF goalie in Fleury, like him or hate him, he is HoF and is going to be a fantastic person to have in the room for Wallstedt. Fleury isn’t in his prime anymore, even he knows and accepts that.
We have Gus bus who is playing like a franchise goal tender. His stats are incredible and he finished the regular season as the 2nd best goalie in the league.
Fleury has stated he loves it here. I could see him retiring and staying on the Wild as a goalies coach. We will have Wallstedt as backup, Gus as starting with Fleury as a possible coach?
We will be done with the suter and parise contracts. Freeing up cap room too.
Everyone expected this season to be a disaster anyways. The fact that we are in tje playoffs and not getting swept by Dallas is a bonus for every Wild fan in the nation.
Do we all wish it would be different? Hell yeah. We all want to sweep Dallas. Have Foligno rearrange Suters teeth, watch Dallas compete in the summer Olympics in the Team Diving event.
Instead we get a fantastic, above expectation season. And a post season that so far has cemented Gusbus as a fantastic goalie. The series isn’t over. Its a best of 3 series. We went to Dallas and stole a game there once. We have the ability to do it again
Yes the Refs were absolute horse shit. But they were for both teams. The Wild couldn’t capitalize on chances. The freaking goal post and Otter were the stars of the game.
