It was so obvious the Lightning took their foot off the gas, they tried to coast to the finish line. Once the score got close they couldn't turn it on again. They had games 2 and 3 in the palm of their hands and lost them both. Thanks a lot Lightning, if the Leafs win this series those fans will be insufferable.

Leafs fan here. You're too hard on your team. They're skilled, seasoned and resilient. Leafs had no business winning Game 3. If the Bolts win in TO the whole dynamic of the series changes with even more pressure on Toronto to win in Tampa and even more pressure if it goes to game 7. If the Leafs figure out how to play to win the Bolts are in trouble, if they keep playing to not lose it's going to be a very close series.
Coming from a leafs fan but I agree with most of what you said although all the leafs goals were just crazy goal scorer bing bang out of nowhere type of goals or plays or absolutely perfect deflections where it was tough for vasilevsky to stop it. So I wouldn’t totally say stopped playing although I agree that allowing the leafs to blatantly just keep screening vas with nobody doing shit has me partly buying ur theory. I think more of what it comes down to is what I always say about dynasty’s and that it’s human nature to not want it as much as a team in the leafs position. 2 cups and 3 straight Stanley cup appearances, the compete just can’t be as high as many of these other contenders

Plus we toughened up, but to think this is all on Tampa is very shallow thinking on your behalf and this series is far from over. Even as a Leaf fan, this was a great listen. Great job. I will say, Tampa Bay is the one team that I think knows what it takes to pull of a series comeback. Vas has very slowly become more human as of late, but he can still steal you a game or three, and the Leafs are certainly a team that CAN disappear and blow a series lead (as they have proven). Tampa lost some key pieces this year and last for sure, and it’s tough to blow those leads (again, Leaf fan here, lol)… but it isn’t over just yet.

The arrogance to count a team out that puts up numbers like the leafs do is the hubirus that allowed the bolts to sink themselves. You said it yourself from your fan perspective and you reflected it in quoting hagel. Listen to the leafs coach get asked about putting the series away on Thursday. He's not, he's saying "there's hard work to be done, we had a night to ride the high of the win, but breakfast this morning before the trip back was quiet as we all rest and prepare to fight Thursday."
The leafs aren't underestimating the bolts. The only path to victory for the bolts is putting aside any moment of contentment.

Did anyone here actually stop to think that all the dismissive attitude towards the Leafs, the "They'll blow a 3-1 lead!", "The Leafs haven't won a series since Shrek was out!" talk is actually what's driving the Leafs this year? Maybe they have had enough of being written off from the word GO. On the other hand, I think we are witnessing the beginning of the Jon Cooper era, he has been a coach for a decade now, several of the key players have been with Cooper since day 1. The Lightning are in cap bind, running deep in the red for several years, and the very long and costly contracts for guys like Kucherov, Vasilevsky, and Sergachev, isn't leaving much for error. One thing they need badly is a good secong string goalie, right now if Vasy is having a bad game, such as game 2 of the final last year, and game 2 of this current series, pulling him and throwing Elliot out there would make games go from deep lacerations to totally bleeding out. The people who still believe the Lightning will come back from this rut and make a super human comeback are the same ones who felt the Buccaneers were going deep, deep, in the playoffs simply because Brady was their QB, nothing else during the season counts, and they won the championships during the past several seasons, so winning this season and every season there after is an automatic guarantee.

McCabe cross checked that player at the end of the second bc the Lightning player shot the puck at Samsonov well after the whistle. Still, dumb penalty, but that's why he did it.
When Lewis Hamilton was 10 laps away from an 8th World Championship, I turned to my wife and said, "Don't celebrate yet. As Leaf's fan I know that heartbreak is right around the corner."
That being said, it is weird being on the other side of this. Go Leafs!
Tampa looked like they ran out of steam. 40 sec shifts felt like a 80 second shift to their legs and it only got worse as the period went on.
This series has been great so far – love watching these two teams battle it out!
