I love when Nico Hischier gets his flowers.

    > Ruff also offered a side of his captain we rarely see.

    > “Yes, he gets mad,” he said. “I’ve seen him mad. It isn’t a lot and not getting mad doesn’t mean you don’t care, but I think when a guy like Nico gets mad, the boys go, ‘Holy [crap].'”

    And also…

    > “He’s Mr. Everything for us,” Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald said.

    >”Nico? … he’s the heartbeat of the team,” center Jack Hughes said, “and we have the utmost respect for him.”

Nico really is the man. I always knew he was a slow burn type of player, but his breakout the past two seasons has exceeded all expectations. Hughes has been our best player, but hischier line has always been our best line. Having Tatar and zetterlund on the wings during the win streak was dominant. Then bringing Mercer up when zetterlund was shipped out and that line caught fire. But the engine is always hischier, he’s the part that fits every where.

Hischier and Hughes not just handling the spotlight but also starting to thrive in it is unreal for me still. True cornerstone players for a franchise and the Devils have both of them long term. Love the poise Nico has as the leader and the standard he sets for the rest of the team to follow.

I’m glad he is not afraid to crash the net and accidentally crash into Sheshterkin and then rather than play timid and let up, was still crashing the net and getting close to him. Compare and contrast that to when the Cupless Swede had his run over there and we would respect him too much for some odd reason. Other than Zubrus, I can’t really think of anyone crashing the night like that

One of the nice things about being in the playoffs and actually winning some games is that it gives the media more opportunity to shine a national spotlight on our guys. This piece is great and Nico is insanely deserving of all the positive press he gets.

When it was still up the air between him and Nolan Patrick that draft year, I was honestly afraid we’d go with Patrick. I just had a hunch that Nico would bring the intangibles. Seeing as Patrick is barely playing, and Nico is now our captain, I think we made the right choice.

So glad I got his jersey during the Tampa playoff run years ago, he has come a long way and critical to this team, love my boy Nico❤️

Leadership really has a lot of influence on how a team plays. Look at teams with lots of skill players, but no leadership, and how they can struggle when adversity hits. Without Nico, these boys might (I stress might) have thrown in the towel or abandoned the game plan. He stayed the course and kept scrapping and everyone else has, too! Shout out to Jack doing the same and stepping up as a leader, too.

Hischier seems to have a fantastic understanding that this (the season, the playoffs, the game, even life) is a marathon, not a sprint – especially for a man of his age. Pair that with unbelievable toughness and the world’s best grimace and you have a suitable leader for a fucking dynasty.

Jack said utmost respect and it wasn’t on camera? That’s bullshit I wanna hear it
