It’s actually insane. I have joked about it being a real curse my whole life bur I am not joking anymore.

  2. gashed_senses

This has got to be the most painful timeline in pro sports history

  3. e_Mills

Don’t add MN NCAA Men’s hockey to this…

We really should go all in on being women’s professional sports fans. Seems a lot less painful of an existence around here.

  5. Shermdonor

Even the most enjoyable run the Wild made ended with scoring 1 goal in a 4 game sweep.

I’ve got a bone to pick with 1998.

That kick wasn’t the reason we lost. It would have increased a 7 point lead to 10 points. Both teams had the ball 3 times after that, including the Vikings getting it first in OT. Also, the rules at that time were sudden death in OT. A field goal would have won it, but we couldn’t get anything going and had to punt instead.

Gary Anderson’s kick surely would have sealed victory, but him missing definitely wasn’t the cause of the loss either. If anything, Griffith’s dropped int was a bigger blow.

And people wonder why we’re fatalistic around here

Wow, we are tied for the longest active streak of first round playoff losses in the NHL. Way to go Dean. Brilliant regular season coach, but when it matters in the playoffs, a total dud so far.

This is missing the wild playoff exits from 2015 and 2016.

I do appreciate the Loons’ effort in acclimating to our sports culture at the earliest opportunity..

I can’t prove it because I was a baby, but I think my uncle cursed Minnesota sports by making some sort of deal with the devil to get the 91 world series win.

He was a notoriously huge Twins fan. Was even on the local news for his fandom. He also spilled his beer on me on my very 1st birthday, the day the Twins won it, which may have been because he was drunk and excited, but also sounds like it could be some sort of satanic ritual so you never know.

Pathetic, mentality of mediocrity. And sadly, too many local fans are content with this and fall over themselves making excuses or awarding themselves participation trophies.

  13. Can’t forget the Loons also lost in the first round of the playoffs in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

  14. I would add the Rudy Gobert trade, which is looking like the worst trade in NBA history. Also the Parise and Suter deals, because their contracts have crippled this team.

Was Met Stadium and later the Mall of America built on top of an Indian burial ground ?

I think what makes this hurt worse is that in the regular season these teams look good. They make you hopeful (this year specifically for vikes/wild). Find ways to battle and win tough games. Then get fist fucked in playoffs.

Would it be different if we were say… the browns or coyotes? Where hope goes to die? Idk but it seems like they know from game one it’s not going anywhere, where we get wide eyes all season. Then come post season we run ass backward into a wall of dildos.

Some things that some of these teams have lacked in all of these decades:

Vikings: super elite MVP level QB in the prime of his career. (Tarkenton wasn’t that. Randall Cunningham when we had him, Warren Moon, Culpepper, Favre, Cousins, none of them when they played for us fit that description)

Timberwolves: MVP level scorer who can create his own shot and take over playoff games at the end of games. (KG was awesome but he wasn’t what I just described)

North Stars/Wild: Elite goalie who steals wins in the playoffs even when we get outplayed. Elite scoring center.

Unfortunately this comprehensive list… doesn’t tell the whole story.

  19. willmcmill4

That United loss was the worst thing I’ve ever seen

  20. StraightGasoline

Missing the Herschel walker trade and the early Vikings Super Bowl losses

All of this has lead to the development of what I call “The Feeling”. It’s the moment you know that the team is not going to stave off elimination and we’ll be out in the first round. You can see it on the faces of those in the dugout or the sidelines, and in the stands. It’s like the dreadful feeling before you get dumped by your sweetheart. It’s being disappointed in yourself for investing energy in a team, year in, year out. The Feeling
