Ruutu's way to fight was to tire his opponent and after a moment you can see how Lucic was getting exhausted and Ruutu was starting to hit him. Luckily the linesmen stepped in.
Ruutu mentions this fight in his book.. and how those bodyshots hurt like hell. He didn't change his grip so as not to expose his head to Lucic's hammers. Lucic had declined Laraque earlier in the game after coach Therien had fumed about Lucic running around and so Ruutu decided to step up
Quit watching NHL around 2002/03 or so. But this Finnish kid Ruutu what a beaut! Throwback when players could play and fight. Know about Lucic from his WHL days. Another throwback. But I like the European players who play NA hockey. Unfortunately NA players play like Europeans. Why I quit watching.
Ruutu had some nasty actions (faking an injury) during his career but when we are talking about his fighting skills, there's no doubt he was one of the toughest guys. He had his way to fight which was different compared to most of the goons.

I’m from Boston, I admittedly love Lucic. But, I do admit, he bowed down from Laramie & Reaves. He must fight Reaves to redeem himself.
