Palat hit on Staal – Have your say!

Ondrej Palat hit Jordan Staal into the boards face first. What’s your call?

  1. 2 minutes for boarding. There was no head contact, and Palat wasn't using his upper body to push Staal into the boards (which is typical in major penalty/suspension-worthy boarding cases – "you see numbers" and that's where you have to be careful). Instead, he used a hip-check, which doesn't typically result in this kind of impact. Moreover, he did not leave his feet, and there was no significant run-up to the check, so there is no case for charging. And Staal had the puck, so it's not interference. The reason for any penalty at all is purely due to Staal's vulnerable position at a distance from the boards where he could be injured if he is checked.

  2. should have left the continuation in where Palat circles back and checks Staahl again who had just gotten to his feet from the first board
