Devils Remain Positive Despite Game One Loss…Expectations Moving Forward (Ft. Ryan Novozinsky)

New Jersey Devils beat writer for NJ.com, Ryan Novozinsky, joined me via phone call all the way from Raleigh, North Carolina. He discussed the happenings within the Devils locker room after their game one loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Not only that, but Novo also provided his thoughts on the playoffs up to this point and hinted at possible changes to the lineup.

  1. I would leave schmid in, when youre team has 1 shot in the first period you cant put everything on the goaltender.

  2. Would love to see Luke Hughes make his playoff debut in Game 3 to try and spark our defense a bit, either that or Game 4 if we ever go down 0-3 in the series.

  3. I say put Luke Hughes in tonight, because he has experience in the Playoffs In his college or whatever put Luke in

  4. BMW line showed up, the rest of the team couldn't get anything going against that Carolina defense. Hope they come out ready in Game 2 and get the first goal, Canes playing from behind are not nearly as dangerous.

  5. luke hughes is not a baby. he is a top talent in the league. i think everyone should want him to play.

  6. Somehow the Devils managed to look worse last game than they did in the first 6 periods against the Rangers. They went a period and a half without a shot. I’m not counting that before the blueline backhand dumpin they counted as a SOG. If they go down 2 games to Carolina like they did the Rangers, they won’t come back. Caroline is so good at not letting you crawl back in. They’re comfortable holding a 1-2 goal lead and play you on the boards in their own zone for the rest of a game.

  7. Not to give excuses but this was pretty much a layup for the Canes. Devils had to be exhausted after a 7 game series and then having to travel the day after, while the Canes got a longer break but also a longer time to strategize and watch film, etc. What really matters is how we respond to making adjustments, which always takes a couple games. LGD!
