The New York Rangers and Gerard Gallant have mutually agreed to part ways. Elliotte Friedman stopped by NHL Tonight to talk about the move as well as who could fill the vacancy.
Gallant led the Rangers to two consecutive 100+ point seasons as well as the Eastern Conference Final in 2022.

Capitals next coach?
Doubt it.
For the life of him he couldn't get why everyone was so pissed about losing a series where in 4 losses his team was completely outclassed. "We had a bad week" Old Non challant Gallant strikes again.
I like Galant but as stated, it's a tough business and this year's team should have accomplished more.
you need players who like getting messy kane EVANDER tkachuk
If Quenneville is allowed back the Panthers should sue the league. They're the only ones who got punished for the bs that went on in Chicago. They have to fire a coach 7 games into the best start they've ever had and Chicago doesn't even have to pull down a banner š¤”
Rangers waiting on Quenneville is just making a deal with the devil to win a cup
Raffi Torres is going to be the next coach for the Rangers.
Stu saying this is an example of the entitled generation
If Quenneville is reinstated, he should be forced to coach in Arizona
Boudreau or Messier
As a Rangers fan Queenville shouldnāt be allowed back into the league. Typical NY move fire coach only after a few years they never give anyone enough time.
Babcock is the next coach
He gets out coached gallant see ya
I respect coach Gallant as a VGK fan & Rangers fan. Regardless of what you think he Is Still A Good Coach!
Bye-bye Giraffe Gallant. You deserve it. Gongrats blue-shirts fanbase!
Just stupid
He's a better assistant coach than a head coach
This move really speaks to the level of entitlement, and selfishness they have in the NYR organization and their fans.
I liked Turk, but all the players have a NTC so someone has to goš¤·š»āāļø
Messier for coach!
This was GM fault. Not coach. Kane hurt when they got him . Now he is going to get surgery. They got rid of the enforcers and heavy hitters.
I'm not sure "kneejerkiest" is a word in the dictionary, but I like it.
"Mutually" my arse.
This is why you have one cup in how many years?
He wasnāt swinging at the media. Stop blowing his comments out of proportion. I didnāt blame him for his comments. The coaching carrousel continues. Hows that worked out ? By the way, there are hockey players on the team who didnāt show up. How about blaming them a bit. Left Shesty out to dry. NO QUIT IN NY ā¦ā¦.Except in game 7. The easy way out again.
Clock ticking on Drury if thatās the case.
Drury is an awful GM! Saved his own hide. He should be fired! Trouba a lousy Captain as well.
Thank God. Gallant is a terrible coach. Can't make an adjustment to save his life.
Chris Drury will be next if he don't put a better team!!! on the ice and not just a collection of individuals. Make the right moves Chris.
Good, should have let this talentless bum go sooner. Thank God!
This really SUCKS! Blame the heartless players!
If quenneville is reinstated just to please the nhls richest franchise, the Nhl proves how hypocritical they are as they act to be the biggest social justice warrior out there. What a middle finger that would be to kyle beach, panthers, and "me too" movement
Why don't the Rangers simply make Zibanejad and Kreider the co-head coaches. Every NHL insider knows those players are the ones running the team.
The players sharing a case of Bud Light decided Gallant should be fired.
I donāt like it.
1 man for the job rod brindāamour simple as ! Go get him !
Gallant can't last over 2 years…not the team. Not the players…it's Gallant.
This to me is the opposite of the Bruins. They already had a great team, and the GM went out and got players like Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi that could only compliment the team…he got the right players, but the coach made mind boggling lineup decisions starting an injured goalie for 6 games when he had a backup goalie that will (or should) be your no. 1 goalie of the future, I'd argue he probably even should have sat Bergeron for the entire series to let him heal a little more, they were in the driver's seat and there was no urgency to insert him back in the lineup…they were up 3-1 in the series without him, then lost every game with him, there were several other questionable lineup changes at defense and other forwards. With NYR, maybe there's something I'm missing with Gallant…maybe he's a Tortorella, Sutter or Cassidy type that has great success at first, but is hard on players and just eventually loses the room, but he seems like a good coach that has made seemingly sub par teams successful. In this case, as what seems to be the trend with the Rangers, the GM got greedy, swung for the fences and went out for the star power instead of getting the right players that would strengthen the depth of the team.
