Should be no one for a year to honor 19 and see where the chips lie after adding some blue chip talent. If we got someone like Bedard they probably should be captain in a few years and it would be tough to relinquish the title from someone like Jones who would still be here for another 7 years.

If I had to pick between the two it would be Murp. The guy has been here for years and I believe he has earned it if he does get it. I am bitter about the Jones contract still but I don’t think he should get it just because he is going to be here for more 7+ years. Let’s just ride out with 3 A’s for a year or two

I think Murph would be the best current option but honestly I’d rather they sit on it and see if a younger guy can emerge as a leader over the next season. I like the idea of a young guy that’ll potentially be around for ~10 years solidifying that role.

I can see the argument for Jones. He’s an experience guy who’s supposed to be a leader on the D and will be around a while, but I think that flies in the face of what KD was saying when letting Toews walk and having the new guys come in to take the reigns. He’s around too long for anyone to do that.
Murphy, he’s stepped up over the last couple of years, become a good mouthpiece in certain situations. He’s got 3 years left on his current contract, and it might take that long for some of these new guys to get to the NHL and make an impact.
