SBNATION trashes the habs

SBNation Penguins writer Hooks Orpik (no I did not make that up) ripped into our franchise in his article yesterday and ranked us 8 out of 11 for most deserving of Bedard.

He wrote:

“The Canadiens just got the first overall pick last year and still aren’t even as close as they should be to contending or bouncing back. Bedard won’t change that and the intense media market would put a lot of pressure on his every move and heap tons of expectations on him to change that. No Hab has scored 100+ points since 1985-86, for better or worse this isn’t a market of star players any more. It’s just a relic of the past with a sense of entitlement and out-sized, unrealistic delusions of grandeur.”

Is this an accurate representation of our reputation outside the city, and how long would it take to change that perception of us in the hockey community?

Ouch, that is mean spirited. Some points to agree with is if some how Montreal won the draft and Bedard became a Hab, the press and fan base would scrutinize everything he does and he would have pressure like he has never felt before but Montreal isn’t the only city like that.
As for the points thing, he is right but you don’t necessarily need that if you have a complete team and don’t need to rely on one or two guys to do all your scoring.
Although maybe a fluke, and unrealistic run, the Habs did make it to a cup final a couple years ago so it’s not like they have been a basement team and not won a playoff series for 19 years.

This is absolutely not accurate lol this person is just being bitter for some reason

It’s from a pens fans perspective, so not trying to be subjective really

“Isn’t a market of star players anymore”

Give us an actual star player and see what happens. We haven’t had a 100 point scorer in forever because weve fumbled picks are just haven’t picked at the top of the draft very many times, not cause the media.

Yes, the Canadiens market and fans are incapable of supporting player for the Habs recently, as long as you don’t include :

Price, Plekanec, Markov, Subban, Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Weise, Gorges, Koivu, Kovalev, Matheson, Weber, Shaw, Kovacevic, Guhle, Evans, Gallagher, Pezzetta, Xhekaj, Emelin, Budaj, Byron, Lehkonen, Toffoli, etc.

And ignore the standing ovations whenever a loved player comes to town and the Habs hold a ceremony.

Dude talks about toxic media like he isn’t toxic media

He’s not a French-Canadian Quebecer, so the media market (the guy is right about this, I won’t lie) wouldn’t even pressure him as they did Drouin. He’ll be fine if he gets picked here, hell Suzuki is projected as the next Bergeron/Kopitar and he’s not that much under the spotlight.

This is a badly written article by an immature writer.

Mans acting like the next star to take crosby’s place in Pittsburgh isn’t gonna be held to some high fuckin standards either.

Probably mad because his girlfriend thought Chariot was hot when we beat the Pens in the Covid play in

    >still aren’t even as close as they should be to contending or bouncing back. Bedard won’t change that

He won’t? What a dumb take

SBNation is a blog site that anyone can write an article on, this guy is a nobody with a fake meme name and none of us should care about this ragebait.

If anything, shouldn’t not having a 100 point scorer since 1986 make us more deserving of Bedard?

Do you really need to take this article seriously? I mean Buffalo and New Jersey got two first overall in the last 6 seasons and they are just starting to be competitive. Toronto got their 1st overall 7 years ago and they went past the 1st round for the time this season. Florida was in the playoff once in 5 season after they got theirs 1st overall.

Breaking news, team that picked 1st overall take more than one off-season to shape into a contending team.

SB Nation? Feels like we’re in 2011 all over again.
