In this video, I go over the most recent Toronto Maple Leafs Trade! I do a deep analytical dive into Ilya Lyubushkin using advanced stats, contextual information as well as who he will play with and in what role. I go over the cost to trade away Nick Ritchie and explain why it did not work out in Toronto. I also talk about the salary cap ramifications and look at what the Maple Leafs can do next!

I'd say the pairings now would be
Reilly brodie
Muzzin l
Sandin holl
Dermot lilligren
We may see another trade with Dermot and dzingel which could add another depth d piece considering their forwards and goalies are set.
Liljgren to Marlies and get another top 4 defensive dman a deadline.
saw a recent interview with Ritchie, he had bad attitude all over him and I am glad he is out of the dressing room, chip on his shoulder and sounded like he wanted to blame everyone but himself for not being able to make it work, far too one dimensional and glad this happened so quickly
Rielly brodie
Sandin bush
Muzzin dermott
As Lou said, if you have time, use time.. Dzingel should get his fair shot with the Leafs.. Put Liljegren on the Marlies and give Dzingel a chance.. you can always waive him or even trade ie for a waiver cleared Adam Brooks.
Trading For Ritchie was a failure but this trade was such a huge win for Dubas!!
Hi. Well, I guess it was mission accomplished concerning moving Ritchie. Dubas has his hands full. I watched the highlights from last night's game and that defense looked similar to days gone by… scrambled and chasing fires. As I said many times the opponent doesn't fear coming into the Leaf's zone. Let's see if Lyubushkin can be that physical presence! Go Leafs Go!
Wave Dzingle. Trade Holl or move him to third pair to find the best partner for him.
Looks like Dzingle just got put on waivers an hour ago. That was quick
Keep Lilly in the minors for a bit and test out Dzingel to see if he’s a better fit than Mikky or Engvall and then trade 1 of the 3 and dermott or holl or whatever for a 4d
I would like the leafs to do one more trade involving dermott or holl or both and getting a defencemen to play with muzzin on the second pair our offence is good as it is especially with dzingel as added depth
Definitely picking up a D-man is a good idea. Always need depth, thats where the Leafs lack. Maybe a grinding type forward. I wouldn't hesitate on including Engvall in a trade, only time he gets close to hitting the net, is when he shoots it into the creast of the goalie
I remember a previous video, you suggested a trade for Lyubushkin, so just want to say good call!!!
Whatever happens the Leafs dumped Ritchie's contract and saved over 2 mil
I would like to see if Liljegren would work with Reilly, oj offensive zone starts. So that they can put Brodie with Muzzin for the defensive side of things
Reilly Liljegren
Muzzin Brodie
Sandin Lyubushkin
The second pairing has been a problem and these 2 guys are depth defensemen. I think Liljegren and Sandin are better than these guys. Getting rid of Ritchie was a good Idea. 2.5 million for a guy that only scores a few goals a season is money better spent elsewhere. Something the leafs should look at is replacing the second pairing completely. Muzzin and Holl plus Mrazek and Ritchie = 13,925,000 and get Giordano and say John Klinberg or Josh Manson or Johnny Boychuk. Go for quality. The Top 4 D men have to be solid to win a cup.
The Leafs seem to have the skill. The big question is "Do they have the will?". Can they play, or maybe more accurately, are they willing to play "playoff hockey". Are they willing to put the effort in to contend in the playoffs? Unfortunately, history says "no". My question to the Toronto Maple Leafs is this…How bad do you want it?
I think they should package dzingel in another deal for another d
Have to feel for Ritchie, being traded to a team with even less chance of winning…
What I see from this trade is we've added some size and grit in our D-corps and we've gotten rid of a sore spot regardless if you're a Ritchie fan or not. Just hope they start playing Clifford more cause he will be needed in the playoffs depending who we are playing. Just having Simmonds wont cut it unless they add more grit in our D corps specially if they meet a team that is designed for the playoffs. This means though that it will be a Spezza, Simmonds and Clifford line…yikes. But this also means that if opponent tries to match our top lines with their checking lines, does that mean their top scoring lines get less ice time. I've always liked the idea of most of your talent in 3 strong lines instead of spreading it over 4 lines. Because this game used to be played with 3 lines with the 4th line getting minimum ice time.
Great video as usual fella….Well…they already waived Dzingel…so as to your other question i still think they should try to acquire that RD puck mover to play with Muzzin….also would not mind another fast checking forward….to bad they could not have added Crouse and left Dzingel out and added a bit more…could have really fixed to spots in one…you know who i'd like at forward… Appleton or Hagel from Hawks
Don't care. Scott Mayfield or hakanpaa
I respect GMs who recognize their mistakes & fix them. I liked the summer deals for Bunting & Kampf, was worried about Kase (so far so good), but thought Ritchie was a over priced gamble. Sadly, he was. The Leafs had to jettison Ritchie & 100 % of his ticket & needed a RD with bite who can play defence & on the PK too. In my view Dubas has done both at low cost. I believe Lyubushkin has more upside playing on a very good team & hopefully Dzingel will clear waivers (unlikely). Chychrun's had a poor year (-24+ at one point) & Lyubushkin, his frequent partner is only -6 on a dog crap team as of now. I think Leaf fans will really like him & he will provide elements they don't have enough of, so fingers crossed that this appears to be a smart move.
Dzingel on waivers, aim for a higher impact D-man (which would mean a bigger trade overall to be cap compliant) and if you miss, you count on the existing depth, which is now strengthened.
well they upgraded Holl, This HAS to mean the end of Dermott or Holl , theres no other way to play it. one of the other is gone.
I honestly see Libuskhkin playing with Muzzin. 100% but i also see him getting a shot with Reilly. Reilly is at his best when hes wheeling having a real solid Dman to back him up would really help him
I wonder if Dubas sees dzingel as a possible replacement for Ilya mik next season? A defensively responsible forward with a high shooting percentage that be can be had for less than 1 mil. Might be something there
The Leafs have an absolute LOG JAM of NHL defencemen now. One of them is 100% going to be moved. I have no doubt it will be Dermott Hes just never been able to elevate his game when given the opportunity enough to stay in the lineup.
They now have Reilly Muzzin Libushkin, Brodie Holl, Sandin, Liljgren, Dermott. Thats 8 Defencemen. I see Libu getting a shot with Reilly , Brodie being moved with Muzzin, and Holl being moved down to play with Sandin. that leaves Liljgren and Dermott. it makes absolutely no sense to keep dermott at that point when they could use that money elsewhere. i full expect to see a trade Dermott for a draft pick in the coming weeks.
Just reading uncle Leo medalled in Bejing. Wondering if it might not be a good thing to bring him in as a depth piece thoughts?
Fingies crossed that boosh makes an impact and takes some weight off of Muz
And the 2nd round pic isn’t for 4 years or whatever so who cares
Justin holls hot streaks come when he plays against low tier teams
