We heard nothing when the Sabres got 2 first overall picks in 4 years. Nothing when the devils got 2 in 3 years. Penguins had 2 in 3 years. Thrashers had 2 in 3 years. Ottawa had 3 in 4 years. Edmonton got 4 out of 6. Quebec had 3 in a row at one point! Yet the hawks going 16 years between first overall picks is heresy, as if teams getting multiple first overall picks in a franchise’s history is a brand new thing.

The part which bothers me the most is that if you genuinely believe it’s rigged, then you have to also believe all 32 teams are in on it, and are willing to keep it a secret while letting the Blackhawks win because the commissioner says so.
“Man, we’d really like Bedard, but think of the ratings and jersey sales if the Blackhawks get him instead. I guess we’re okay with that, yeah!”

The worst part is the folks who forgot about the Aldrich thing 2 days later but now wanna act like their tears are justified by some higher moral purpose when in reality they’re just melting down about puck. We all know that situation was super fucked, and we all know in the scheme of thing the punishment probly wasn’t stiff enough, but somehow none of that mattered until the Hawks got Bedard and their favorite team didn’t.

The funny thing is they didn’t even finish bottom, with their depleted roster they still finished ahead of an Anaheim team that was supposed to do much better on paper. So they got lucky with the lottery, and that has nothing to do with any misconduct from the past.
