I would be supportive of a trading some of our picks for some players that can play on a line with Bedard. This free agency is pretty weak and we need someone good with NHL experience to keep up with Bedard. This year will be all about developing are young guys but we need someone to guide them.

This might be the dumbest question, but is there any chance (even .0001%) we don’t select Bedard for whatever reason?

  3. They’re going to take on an unwanted contract to gain an asset. It’s all but a lock, and with the available cap space it’s frankly good business.

I was vocally against taking Michkov at 3 or 4 if that’s where they landed. But with Bedard in tow, if there’s a chance to trade up to get Michkov at like 4-6, that could be awesome. Just in general trading up into the top 8 or 10 could be a good idea, but specifically with Michkov I think the Hawks are much better position to take the risk/reward home run swing now that they have Bedard. If he does make it stateside him and Bedard could terrorize the league for 10+ years.

Kyle must be checking r/hockey and is preparing for the Hawks to surrender all their draft capital forever like reddit has deemed necessary

I hope he means moving around in the draft rather than trading picks for NHL ready players. Take a cap dump, sure, but don’t just start excelleraring the rebuild when we’re clearly not ready. But I have faith. He’s made it oh so clear he’s no taking shortcuts.
