  1. All of these guys playing well that could step into the lineup soon is why you do not sign plugs like Poolman to multi year 2+ mil deals.

  2. The keys to the Vancouver Canucks season will be the defense and Elias Pettersson playing, consistently, like the player many all ready view him as, but that which he has yet to actually achieve. Quinn Hughes can score 90 points a season, but if he can’t defend it will all be for naught. Which is why he’s still not a top 10 or even top 20 NHL defenseman. He might be a top 10 fantasy Dman, but not a top 20 NHL Dman. That top 20 position, is right now, still mostly potential. Not so dissimilar to Pettersson. OEL can definitely help with that. He might not have the offensive ceiling of Hughes, but he plays physical and at least understands defense. I think Podkolzin, Garland and Hogs are going to become very important pieces. But right now, Horvat, Miller and Boeser are basically the only ones playing up to the level required for success. At least most of the time.

  3. Losing Hamonic is huge though. He’s the defensive defenseman we really needed. That’s why Juolevi’s crappy/mediocre performances really stand out because he now needs to be that stay at home defenseman or the team is in trouble. That is a huge loss, make no mistake. You can’t outscore all of your defensive deficiencies. This isn’t the 80s.

  4. Ekman Larson has some slick moves, but the problem is that he will rarely be able to commit to these moves in regular season play. When he was younger, he had no problem finding that extra gear to toe drag or dangle past an opposing player. These days he is slower and less agile, he will have to adjust his game to compensate for his aging skills. Not only that, but almost every opposing team runs the same game on the Canucks, they smash the hell out of the D corps. The Canucks are always thin on the blueline, so teams focus on physically wearing down their blueliners. Ekman Larson will be a favorite target of opposing teams and he took a number of hits from Flames players last night. If he is going to last the season, the Canucks need a physical presence on the backend to keep opposing players honest. No, that player is not Tyler Myers, unfortunately.

  5. OEL is a huge upgrade on the slowed down Edler. He's going to be a good fit here!

  6. Imagine if OEL puts up 55 points and isn't a mess in his own zone… Norris candidate!? lets gooooo

  7. Although the Canucks could've had Dylan Guenther in the 2021 draft.

Honestly it still confuses me why Vancouver would go ahead and make that trade because its not like they are contending anytime soon, (considering as of Sep 28th 12:11 pm the Canucks most talented players are still RFAs).

As for Arizona they might have gotten themselves a franchise goal scorer, who fell in the draft, not because he is bad, but because there were some pretty good defencemen available, and as we all know its harder to find good defence then it is to find good forwards.

Now I bet there will be people who read the words franchise goal scorer and laugh at that notion, I get it that notion can seem pretty strange, however if we look at Guenther's stats from 2016-17 to 20-21 you will see exactly what I mean when I say franchise goal scorer:

16-17 = 34 goals and 54 pts in 34 games (1 goal per game, and 1.59 pts per game)
17-18 in total = 57 goals and 106 pts in 33 games (1.73 goals per game and 3.21 pts per game)
18-19 in total = 35 goals and 62 pts in 36 games (0.97 goals per game and 1.72 pts per game)
19-20 = 26 goals and 59 pts in 58 games (0.45 goals per game and 1.02 pts per game as a rookie in the WHL, led his team in goals)
20-21 in total = 15 goals and 29 pts in 16 games (0.94 goals per game and 1.81 pts per game)

I feel like IF Guenther goes and wins the calder with lets say 25 goals and 54 pts then Benning should be fired, especially if the Canucks fail to make the playoffs. because the Canucks had the pick and just traded it away, (of course its a big if but if it happens then goodbye benning)

  8. Horvat took a very, very stupid penalty that basically led to a goal, so ya. That needs to be fixed.

  9. canucks were playing against an ahl team. lol. i do hope he does well though

  10. So who did calgary have in there top 6 last night ? Oh thats right one guy mangiapane. Love the click bait bro because it worked on me <3
