Crossunder like MacKinnon and McDavid

In this video we take a quick look at Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid’s crossunders. Our Train 2.0 coach Mason Hackel @hackelhockeyhacks demonstrates both beautifully.

The cadence and size of the cross can vary depending on your style, and it’s important to feel comfortable with both smaller and larger steps. The rocker is also crucial, and you want to focus on landing at the heel with good shin angle, and then pushing off into a rocker that lands at the toe.

It’s important to stay loose throughout the movement, with flexible ankles, loose hips, and relaxed shoulders. At Train 2.0, we focus on the underfoot and making sure we have a solid rocker, as it gives more power and mechanical leverage. Don’t overthink the technique, just focus on feeling comfortable and getting better with practice.
