  1. For some reason, I just want to slap Drance’s shiny dome. With that cardigan, he reminds me of a garden gnome.

  2. I really liked Cheech too but i was finding this season that Garrett was starting to not add a whole lot to shorty unlike other broadcasting duos around. Either wouldn't respond or say very little unless it was breaking down a play. BESIDES ALL OF THAT he is a legend and will be greatly missed on the mic. Curious to see what he does for sportsnet

  3. I liked Garret when he played for us. Even then he was small for a goalie. Not Darren Pang small. I liked his mask. Some people did not like those uniforms to. Cheech has been with us for a long time. Sure he would want to do other things eventually. How many years has he been involved in hockey. As a player and broadcaster. He should be celebrated by some. I thank John Garrett for his time I have enjoyed him. Rick said something about conditioning. He think Kuzmenko runs out of gas sometimes? He likes him. I guess his ceiling is still higher.

  4. i am crushed to hear the news that john is stepping away. shorty's good natured jibes at john were always taken in stride by him and it's just not going to be the same without him. if it wasn't for john, i would never had tried ketchup on my KD. i wish the NHL would review the film and give john the assist he so richly deserves.

  5. I have lived in a few different NHL cities and pretty much all of them are homers first, hockey fans second. Now that's understandable because that's a big part of the job although sometimes I wondered if we were watching the same game. Among all of them, I found that the two Johns are the fairest among all the NHL broadcasters. Cheech is a homer as well but he's a lot less of a homer than all others. I have always enjoyed their call on the games. The saving grace this is that at least we still have Shorthouse.

  6. Why is Drance talking about Kuz driving a line, if it works so well with him and Pettersson why tf do you need to see him drive anything.

  7. Gonna miss Cheech SO much. I've known we had something special with John Garrett since the early 2000s. He always made it feel like we were watching the game with a friend. He was funny, and kind, and always had something great to say. Wish we were going to get a few more seasons with him. Shorthouse, it must be said, is also a living legend.

  8. Garrett will be sooooo missed. I notice it when its a different Sportsnet colour and play by pay team. Even when he joined the other crew, it elevated the others broadcast. What shoes to fill.

  9. thanks Donnie for cutting drance off his voice is like the most annoying sound in history. He offers nothing hes just a blabbermouth shooting his mouth off. Terrible. Cant stand the guy.

  10. Drance's take on Hronek's first game sounds dismissive in a shitty way. Canucks getting at the DL this guy is win on every metric except feelings.

  11. 🤓 Garret has been fun; a little "homey", but in today's colour commentator (and play-by-play guys, for that matter), "objectivity" has seemed to have gone my the way-side. He always seemed to be the great 'backup' teammate, doing whatever he was asked (yes, I'm old enough to have watched him in his playing days with The Canucks), and he just seems in every way, a class act (Bet you'd take a long while to find anyone with a bad word about him). I hope they can find a competent replacement; a ex-player would be nice – I can do without the analytics guy in that position. With NHL Centre Ice package, we're able to listen to A LOT of the PBP and Colour guys around the league, and learn how LUCKY we were to have had two of the greatest PBP announcers in the history of the game: Robson and Hughson!!!; by comparison, ugh (the obvious ex-baseball style commentators are the worst, getting surprised when a goal is actually scored, like they should have been paying attention to what was happening on the ice?!?!?), and then the ex-player, who is there for ??? unknown reasons (like the cliché-infused boring trite commentary of Louie DeBrusk in Edmonton (UGH!)… "That was their game plan, to try scoring early…" / "You can tell he really wanted the puck…" DOH! No, REALLY? Hope they find a good one! (Kevin Bieksa, COME HOME!) 🥰

  12. Good to hear Thomas Drance, Donnie and Dhali all paying tribute to Cheech. Vancouver has been blessed with some wonderful broadcasters over the years – as terrible as the product on ice has been at times, I do not recall much time when the broadcasters were not bringing an A game to each game… Congratulations to Cheech on a great career!
