Keegan Kolesar laid this hit on the back of Mattias Ekholm into the boards. He was issued a five minute major penalty for boarding. Tough Call will be reviewing the incident. Have your say!
If you stop four feet from the boards you are going to eat them. Play the puck, glide into the boards and take the hit. Players spinning after playing the puck to draw penalties should be a new penalty for Dangerous Play. He knew he was there, he choose to endanger himself. Kolesar taking the body against a puck carrier is a hockey play and he glided into the check. No penalty at all.
it was boardin… but 2 min woulda been an acceptable call as player not hurt and didnt seem intentful to injure… but def a penalty… double minor at best id say but im not a ref 🙂
It 100% deserves the call. That being said, that’s such a boneheaded move to play the puck and position yourself squatting face first in the corner knowing you are about to get checked. Refs gotta call the play as it happens but players gotta be careful with how they position themselves knowing that hitting exists in the game. Poor dude coulda had a major injury from that
The NHL has basically decided that the fans they want are the bloodthirsty lot who want to see major injuries occur on live television. Cross-checks to the face, boarding, spearing, slashing, hits from behind…. the refs are looking the other way on almost everything, forcing teams to goon it up to protect their skill players. Until the NHL decides to actually enforce its own rules, the talent level in the NHL is going to take a dip as teams prioritize size and aggression over skill.
I feel bad for Connor Bedard entering the NHL in this kind of environment.
It’s going to take somebody being paralyzed for the NHL to crack down on checking from behind calls.. It’s just dangerous all around, players need to not turn their backs, onus has to be on both parties
NHL officiating this postseason has been deplorable. Need accountability from the officials with a post game press conference. Also, DoPS is an absolute joke.. This should be a game, but based on handling of the Eberle hit, it won’t. NHL unwatchable these days.
You know, this is a really messed up series. Alex P crying that he is being targeted, but two of the major infractions have both come from Vegas. Vegas will probably win this series, but they play Goon Hockey. Vegas is now my most hated team. Even more than Calgary & the battle of Alberta.

Goon hockey in the NHL postseason.
Top player from minor hockey went to the Jrs at a young age. When he played a couple seasons, one game he got paralysed from the exact same hit.

Ovie makes this hit every fee games, if anything 2 mins for a dive

This isn't just a 5 min major. This needs suspension. Ekholm is lucky he didn't come out of this with injuries like Draper.

All the Oilers haters (and there are many) will say that was a good hit.
