The only reason Caulfield is still a Hab is because Bergevin got fired!
Player development was probably at fault with most of them but it is still a failure of Bergevin
You can say this about any team in the NHL, ALL teams miss on draft players every single year. I would blame your scouting process if anything, thats where Bergevin gets his information from.
Yup we saw how educated you were about draft picks on your last video!! You have no idea what you're talking about!!!!😂
This is why you ALWAYS have to pick BPA- agree 100%. Would be interesting to hear from Trevor Timmons one day on whether Bergevin or someone else were overruling his picks. I've heard a couple of stories where he was overrruled- Kostitsyn instead of Carter…
He also made bad signings. Price and Gallagher for sure
I've been saying Bergevin was a dud and failed the Habs for a long time, not just when it came to drafting. Thanks Coach
Like the raisins said… there's "grapeness" in us.
Duh. I think every Hab fan knows this. Thanks Coach.
Bergevin over stayed his welcome by about 5 or 6 years. How he ever got an extension by Molson is beyond me.
Great perspective Coach but hindsight helps in determining who is better in the NHL. The KK pick was really bad and time confirms this. Love these dailies.
Timmins had too much influence over Berge..
Did bergy draft the wrong players or did Montreal fail to develop players?
There is plenty of blame to share when it comes to Habs drafting. Hindsight is 20/20, but it's really fun to imagine alternate histories. Drafting Carey Price before (centre) Anze Kopitar was a mistake. Building around a star GK is a high-risk template. Ken Dryden added a lot to an awesome '70s team & Patrick Roy carried his '80s and '90s team… but you don't build from the crease! It has been done, but very rarely… The one that really hurts is Louis Leblanc before (centre) Chris Kreider. I sometimes think about "NY Ranger" Louis Leblanc crashing into Price (and bouncing off of him!). Kreider is a beast… The formula is simple: Look at every Habs pick for the past 40 years, then look for the next available OHL forward who is at least 6'1" and 190 lbs. It is NOT happy reading.
Also, one year earlier, but not selected byBergevin, we could have selected Nikita Kucherov but instead selected Nathan Beaulieu.
Missing B.Tkachuck is the one that stands out most. He could have went 1st overall.
Drafting is hard, coach. It's not an exact science. At the end of the day, you need to be lucky with your picks. Bergevin had a blindside w.r.t. centres (he failed to take the best player available a couple of times), but most of the time he was just unlucky. He made up for it in his last 3 years as GM – all great picks!
Habs led legue in attendance . Molson making money .They dont care
No first round picks from 2012 to 2018 still with the team. This is why habs are rebuilding now.
Great video Coach
Well Bergevin was a one man show he made decisions on emotional acts, he didn't surround himself properly so no one could challenge his decisions on draft day, his ego got the better of him and damaged the organization imo, today's new Habs management is a team that works together and challenges each other imo. great video Coach.
Very insightful Coach!
He was a pile of dog shit, good riddance
If I consistently marry one of the top 30 eligible women in the world, and all those marriages fail…might just be me with the problem, no?😂
2016 was the year to get à center: rage Thompson was available
This would have been a more useful video about ten years ago when Bergevin first derailed the rebuild he promised to try to win now and build a team in his own image. Now its just a rehash of the team's old mistakes. I'd concentrate on what management is doing now and hope they don't suddenly short circuit the rebuild cause they think they can win now.
Picking kotkaniemi over brady tkachuk 😭😭😭😭
The issues surrounding the Montreal Canadians are much deeper then Mark Bergervin Yes he made some bad picks. Now were those bad picks coupled with bad development ultimately sank the Habs. They made bad picks and then followed it up with very poor development processes ( very similiar to how they are managing Slafkovsky)
The other issue is the competitive disadvantage facing Montreal. The NHL has a salary cap but that cap is not designed to create competitive parity.
Great Show— Drafting is definitely not an exact science.
MB got MTL to the finals for the first time in 28 years
he traded for journey man players like he was and basically gave everyone 5 year contracts….Gally's is an example of one that will bite us due to his injury problems. trading Sergachev for Drouin was one of his worse trades ever…..Drouin is a prima donna who amounted to nothing as he is not worth a bag of used pucks
