Toronto Maple Leafs Offseason Outlook

The Toronto Maple Leafs were able to make it out of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2004. After a second-round exit at the hands of the Florida Panthers, what awaits the Maple Leafs this offseason?

  1. Winning one round is not the prize. Anyone that thinks that is wrong. Leafs need to seriously evaluate what went wrong and correct accordingly. Did Dubas select the right players? No. Was Keefe outcoached? Yes. Should certain players be traded to make a better playoff team. Yes. Does finishing first in their division matter? No. Will having players that respond well in the playoffs make a difference? Yes.

  2. Crying about a held stick when every puck carrier is getting tripped and hooked and held on both sides šŸ˜‚

  3. Signing that loser John Tavares was what screwed this team. Could have signed two guys with heart. Instead they got the worst captain in team history. What a loser.

  4. Nobody will EVER convince me against, during the Leafsā€™ current off-season, the need for:
    – the Board of MLSE, the Leafsā€™ and Raptorsā€™ ownership group, to respectively, hire a new President and GM to replace Brendan Shanahan and Kyle Dubas
    – at least one of Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander to be traded
    – the Leafs to re-sign Samsonov ONLY, given his lacklustre playoff performance compared to his regular-season one, if he agrees to re-sign at league minimum on a 2-way deal

  5. They're scared of getting hit because they dont have an enforcer. Simple as. That's why they play better in the regular season when teams aren't dirty like that.

Dump one of the twinkletoes and get someone with less skill and more testosterone

  6. There will be no significant changes. Leaf management will wait til the sadness and anger passes . Come September they will be heroes again. Wash rinse repeat

  7. In hindsight, Tavares may end up being the worse signing for the Leafs as it hinders their cap to sign players that they need for the playoffs!

  8. I continue to say the Leafs are soft. You need grit and amazing goalkeeping to go deep in the playoffs..

  9. Finally a media person calls out the holding the stick that Gudas did on the overtime winner

  10. If it were possible Harold Ballard would be laughing in his grave. He cursed the team the moment he took control. Ever since they have never even been to the finals since they last won a Cup. Every Original Six team has multiple Cups, except the Rangers who have one and multiple finals appearances. The list of teams to not make a Stanley Cup final since the first expansion is very short and Toronto tops them all in years without making it that far.

  11. too many fancy crap passes , figure skating around the ice instead of playing hard nose hockey , nobody wanted to battle infront of bob , the amount of turnovers alone was insane , 7 years and one round to show for it , to only crap out vs florida , they got man handled and outplayed ( minus the game 5 game ) from the coach to the players

as a long time leaf fan watching these guys since they were drafted , 2 out of the 4 core guys need to go , to free up cap to make this team more well rounded , get the 1st rounders stock pile those and we should still be competitive next season , get rid of holl gio kerfoot kampf reese brodie i do not want to pay ROR 6+ million when he barely helped beyond games 1-3 in the lightning series , lets pick up some young hungry guys get a #1 goalie to battle it out with sammy if hes back and we should be okay

Keefe cant coach these brats he has to go , dubas drafts micro mini players and guys he knows instead of getting bruisers who can skate and do it all for the team so dubas gotta go , i honestly think shanny does absolutely NOTHING lol so clean the damn house keep the goalie coach seemed to have helped sammy alot so keep him the equipment staff the skating cosch but the big three upstairs got to go

  12. The Leafs were outplayed most games in the playoffs, including in round 1. It's simply amazing considering how STACKED their line up is. What is the issue? Coaching? "Heart"? I don't know, but there is no way they can come back with this same core and coaching staff next year. .

  13. They were kinda lucky to even win the Tampa series because they were outplayed and outworked mostly. Everyone has forechecked harder than them and that showed in the Florida series too.

  14. ƀ Toronto , ils ont oubliĆ© que Ƨa prenait une dĆ©fensive de qualitĆ© et des gardiens au – dessus de la moyenne pour faire du chemin en sĆ©ries…

  15. Due to a major outbreak of Covid-56 the remaining Leafs games for this season have been cancelled. We apologize to the fans. Wait till next year!

  16. 1) Re-sign Dubas with a mandate for the following changes
    2) Trade Matthews and the 28th OA to Anaheim for Terry and the 2nd OA
    3) Draft Fantilli
    4) Trade Marner wherever for a top 4 dman and cap space
    5) Buyout Murray
    6) Re-sign O'Reilly, Acciari, Kampf, Schenn
    7) Extend Nylander

  17. Tavares is the only gritty player of the 4. Marner is usually responsible (goal or assist) for majority of the goals. Matthews has a great shot but doesnā€™t do much else these days. Nylander is very skilled when he feels like playing. I would trade Matthews and Nylander to clear up a lot more cash as well as Holl and then start building up more of a bruiser team to complement the rest of the talent. Once you hit the playoffs itā€™s not pretty anymore itā€™s all about grinding. If you have a team with grinders that hate to lose you will do a lot better than a team thatā€™s always trying to make the ā€œperfect play/goalā€.

  18. Did Gudas deserve a penalty for interfering with Jarncrok. Yes he did. But i watched it live and it was so subtle, im not surprised the ref missed it. I needed a slow motion replay to see it

  19. Best league in the World, it takes a great team just to make the playoffs, never mind win it all. Everything said here is true, including interference on the winning goal. Florida is playing well and getting some bounces, the LEAFS played hard, close games, overtime games Vezina BoB there when you do get a decent scoring chance. Matthews and Marner are still young hockey players, give it some time. Thatā€™s the only argument I have, there is a lot of money in three guys and if they insist on being worth that, you want them to come up big in those big games. I was wondering if Matthews was hurt, or not 100% maybe. He wouldnā€™t use that as an excuse. So, next season it is. It will be interesting to see what happens with management and players in the offseason.
