Wayne Gretzky joined the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast to discuss all things Wayenoo, but a certain story about his dad telling him there is only one Gordie Howe may have Red Wings fans a little angry.

  1. GRETZKYS DAD ALWAYS CHANGES THE FUTURE SUCH A RESPECTABLE MAN. RIP WALTER (I'm cringey af but I'm only 13 so give me a break)

  2. Gretzky in the 80s might have screwed with the drafting and deals that got Detroit fans the 90s teams.Yzerman was already a Red Wing though so who knows.

  3. Gretzky, Yzerman, Fedorov all on the same roster at that time…. wow

  4. What's crazy is that if what he said is true, Gretzky's dad basically changed hockey in the US by convincing Gretzky to go to LA.

  5. Food for thought if the trade would have happen Bob Probert would likely had an 40 goal season if not more

  6. I was 14 yrs old and lived in Ontario at the time. The entire COUNTRY blamed Janet Jones for the trade. We all thought, through the media, that she wanted Wayne in LA so she could continue her acting career. And What Gretzky didn't mention in this clip is that the reason Pocklington traded Wayne was because Pocklington was in financial trouble. The deal paid Pocklington like $15 million U.S. at the time. Essentially, he sold Wayne to LA for the cash so his businesses would not go bankrupt – businesses outside of the Oilers. What a crying shame.

  7. Find it hilarious that REAL TRUTHS only come out when the person is old and irrelevant hahahahahahahahah

  8. So what if Gordie Howe was a Red Wing. Gretsky could of added to the history. Strange reasoning by his father..

  9. I would of loved him as a Red Wing💋❤Love always anyhow.Him and Yzerman would have been a deadly duo.

  10. Would love to know what the package going back would have been. But I'm happy with how things turned out. It took 9 more years to win a Cup, I got to see it. I was only 5 when Gretz was traded and that Wings team just lost to EDM in the 3rd round. I might not have seen all the stuff I saw as I got older. Now, had I been older in 88 maybe I would feel differently.

  11. In middle school, I became a Wings fan in 1988, and I do appreciate how incredible it would have been to snag The Great One, but I wouldn't trade my DRW fan experience for anything. You can keep Gretzky and I will happily keep Yzerman, Lidstrom, The Russian Five, The Grind Line, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, etc.

  12. Huh. Really interesting how the greatest NHL player grew up a Redwings Fan. Before Gretzky was the greatest player, Gordie Howe was and he was a redwing. There’s really something special about the Wings franchise that I feel like most people don’t know.
